Default Self Debark in Tampa

Has anyone done this? How easy was it to get off the ship? I'm going on a 4 day in August with my children and don't expect to have much luggage. I'm thinking of getting a hotel room for the day and then taking them to Busch Gardens as our flight doesn't leave until 7:15 p.m. With the cost of Busch Gardens I want to get there as early as I can. The last time I sailed out of Tampa we were in the last group called and didn't get off the ship until 11:30 a.m. even though we docked on time. Busch Gardens closes at 6:00 p.m. so that wouldn't give us enough time for the expense.

Last August, we took this option off the Sensation. We walked off at 7:30 and were in our car parked at the pier by 7:45. A piece of cake!

We are planning to do this again in May.

Yes, I thought the walk off time was a definite benefit. We walked right off the ship. The hard part is finding your luggage. Put something on the luggage to identify it and that will speed the process along. Busch Gardens is one of my favorite places to visit in Tampa. Make sure you give yourself an hour at the airport for check in.

Have a wonderful cruise!

We did if off the Inspiration in January. We stayed in our room on Empress deck, the debarkation deck and opened the door. When they called for "self-Debarkers" at 7:45 a.m., off we went. They normally have you meet in one of the lounges and then take everyone to the gangway together. The pursers office just told us to stay in our room since we were on the gangway level. We each had a rolling suitcase, rolled out, handed our customs declarations to the folks and were in our car by 8:15 a.m. Will do it again.........

Thanks everyone. This has decided it, we're going to self debark. I thought why waste a full day in Tampa when we can do something enjoyable! Kids are excited at the thought of Busch Gardens after the cruise!

Darcy:

Remember NOT to put your luggage out the night before like on other cruises. You keep it with you and carry it off yourself. I saw that one person said you have to look around for your luggage. You don't, you take it off with you so no looking for luggage. We had a long drive and enjoyed having that extra time to get home rather than sitting on the ship waiting for our color to be called.

Thanks BoosterMom. I did read that you keep your luggage with you. Its a four day cruise and we all pack really light which is why I thought we would try it. With getting off the ship early we'll be able to have a whole day at Busch Gardens. Since we live in NH its one more thing while we're already there.

Good luck Darcy! Hope they still have the area where you can pet sting rays at Busch. We went when our girls were little (they are in college now) and had such a good time.

Thanks BoosterMom. We did the sting ray swim last year in Grand Cayman and the kids loved it!
