Default Costa Maya Mayan Ruins

We will be going to Costa Maya on the Miracle over Thanksgiving week this year and would like to go to one of the Mayan Ruin trips that are offered through Carnival. There are two that are offered, Chacchoben and Kohunlich Mayan Ruins. Has anybody been on either of these trips and have you heard any comparison of the two? I'm trying to figure out which one is the best trip to take.

Which, if any, allow you to actually climb up on the temples?

Also, some of the people in our group that might go with us have a little trouble walking. Would either of these trips be too difficult for them?

Any information would be appreciated.

My TA also said you could climb the ruins at Chaccoben. She also said that these are unique because they are the only ruins that are truly Mayan. She said others have influences of other cultures but Chaccoben is truly Mayan. I've never been there tho and can't vouch for the accuracy of the info she gave me.

We did Kohunlich Mayan Ruins a few years ago. Hated the entire experience. 6 hours, no food, not even any bus stops to get your own food. The tour guide was about as exciting as watching grass grow. You could climb the ruins but the overall experience was a let down. I would suggest trying the other at Chaccoben. Heard some good things about it.

Thanks for the info!

It sounds like the Chaccoben Ruins might be the place to go.

Is this a big place?

How do they compare to other mayan ruins?

Is it worth the money? How much do they charge?

Any other information would be appreciated.

We went to the ruins at Chacchoben. It was okay, I'm not much into that, although my husband loved it. We will be going on a cruise again this Fall and he is already talking about which of the ruins he will be going to. I think this time he is going to make the Talum trip. There was a 45 min ride to the ruins, but it was an airconditioned bus and you got to see alot of the country that you would not have seen if you just stayed near the pier and shopped.

You did get to climb to the top of only one of the buildings.
