Are there any rental car shuttles @ the port of Miami? I want to rent a car to get to the Ft. Lauderdale airport and to do some sightseeing after we get off the ship. We have a late flight home so this is possible. Thanks
K,
Im in the same problem but the other way around. Im flying into Fort Lauderdale on the 7th for the cruise on the 8th. We want to spend the night in FL and looking into shuttles and taxis and all its cheaper to rent a car for the day. I think what I will end up doing is renting frim FL airport and return to Miami airport then take a taxi to the pier for around $20. Still ends up cheaper then a shuttle or taxi. If anyone has any other suggestion Im willing to listen.
John

Several car rental companies run constant FREE shuttles on cruise days between MIA and the pier. I know Alamo, Thrifty, Hertz and Avis do. Not sure about dollar or enterprise. Know from 3/04 cruise Budget and National DO NOT!!!! No need to pay for a taxi. Also, there are no drop off charges in FL for renting at one location and dropping at another. I used Alamo and the shuttle vans ran constantly every few minutes.
We are sailing next week. We rented from Alamo from FLL to Port of Miami (MIAP71 is the code). We were able to rent a midsize vehicle for under $40 each way.

We did exactly that. Flew into FT Lauderdale, rented a car at the airport, stayed 2 days on South Beach, returned the car and was driven to the port.
I can't remember which company it was but they had a desk in a downtown hotel with a shuttle to the seaport. I had to call the local rental car company sites in Miami until I was able to find one that could set up this arraingment. I think it was Enterprise. There was a line to checkin the car and a wait for the shuttle but it was not unpleasant.
Going back to the airport we just arrainged online for the airport shuttle. about $34 for 2 people.
