If you book your tour thru Carnival, in addition to a tour of the hotel, you will be able to access "The Dig" (the underground part of the huge aquarium), if you take a taxi to Atlantis, you will only be admitted to the "common areas", shops (of course), casino, restaurants, you will not be allowed to walk into every area (including the beach and pool area), the resort has Security personnel at every door and unless you have a wristband on, you will not be allowed to enter the restricted areas. If your purpose is to gamble and have lunch then just take a taxi.
We were at the Atlantis one week ago today from the Valor. We took a taxi from the port
$4.00 pp. Once there we purchased the "Dig" tickets for $29.00. We were able to
access the resort, pools, beach, the dig, and walked all around. We could
have swam in the pools if we had brought our suits. The Atlantis is beautiful, but we
did not think the price was worth what we saw. We have seen better aquariums
in other places. The price of our shore tour on our own was $37.00 plus tip. The price
of Carnivals shore tour is $45.00. It includes a tour of the harbor, but when the harbor
tour is over you have a 10 minute walk up to the Atlantis.
