Default Carnival Valor Wi-Fi

If you bring your own laptop, and your own wireless card and everything, do you have to pay for the wi-fi service??? I know they have laptops and wireless cards available to rent, and I know they charge you to use the computers in the Internet Cafe...but I wasn't sure that they would charge you for a service that is available all over the ship...from past experience, I thought that if you were staying/lived somewhere that had wireless internet, as long as your computer could pick up the signal, they had no way to block you from it if you weren't paying for it...

Not sure that, even if it is free, I would bring my laptop on a cruise...but I was curious and hoped someone would know whether or not they charged for it!

You pay Carnival's Internet fees. 75 cents/minutes....with "packages" of multiple minutes costing atound 55 cents/minute.

Tara,

We sailed the Valor just last month and here are the ship's rates: 250 minutes for $100.00; 100 minutes for $55.00; or "Pay as You go" at $0.75 per minutes. Not regarding your choice from the preceeding, a one-time activation fee of $3.95 is charged.

I carried my wireless laptop on board but chose to visit internet cafes in the various ports we visited. Fees at the ports ranged from $2.00 for 60 minutes to 10 cents per minute with a minimum of 20 minutes. Ended up using my laptop only for downloading the several hundred digital photos that we took.

Thanks to everyone for your help! I think that if I REALLY want to use a computer that bad, I'll just do so in port one day. :o)

Nothing is free on a cruise ship If you use wi-fi there's a fairly hefty charge, although you can buy a package if you plan to use the computer a lot. I worked on Carnival Valor and wi-fi was flawless everywhere I went. If you only want to check email, I recommend doing it ashore. In every port you'll find a cyber cafe where charges are around $3 per hour.

Some packages are at 40 cents/minute. Port time is usually short enough to where I don't want to waste it on Internet. The old time vs money dilemma.

Actually, while its not worth much, kinda, you CAN browse the Carnival website for FREE on the ship using your own equipment. Why would I want to do that? Well, we thought it was a nice little perk as one afternoon we were browsing future Carnival cruises and trying to decide how many, and what denomination of certificates we wanted to buy for upcoming cruises

Actually you can also use it to keep in touch with friends and family (free). Funville is on carnival.com so you can post there. There even have a forum for Currently Onboard. A downside is that every can see your postings.
