It's only 131 days Paul, but you are right, seems like it is taking forever for this one to get here. Of course considering that we have had it booked for over a year, this is just a drop in the bucket.

Hi,

Add 2 more names to the list. We're doing B2B's on the Liberty. 28days on the ship.
The prices were so great, we just couldn't pass up the chance. We've done transatlantic's before and really enjoy the sea days. Last year we were on the Rotterdam and ran into a hurricane. Since this will be a month later, I hope hurricane season will be over.

We'll be flying in Oct 11th and will stay overnight somewhere. I've been looking for a hotel in Civitavecchia but haven't found anyplace that we'd want to stay. Any suggestions?

If we stay near the airport, we'll just buy cruiseline transfers to the port. We've been to Rome before, so thought we'd just use it as a rest day.

We'd like to be included in any fun things the group decides to do.

Welcome KS! Please send your e mail address to Kuki@cruisemates.com, and I'll add you to the list so we can inform you of "group activities".

Anyone interested in the optional Rome Package we've arranged through Port Promotions... time is short to book it. Here's the link
http://www.portpromotions.com/liberty.html

Think they may also be able to arrange for those who just want transfers from Rome to the ship to join us, if you want.

We are not arriving early and have booked our air through Carnival, so we have no idea what time we will get to the ship until we receive our documents. We may be tired when we get there, but once we step on the ship, all my energy comes back.

We live in San Antonio, Texas.

Hello all,

Well I posted the other day but obviously did something wrong since I don't see it here. Guerry and I will be on this cruise too and are really looking forward to it. After a tiring month or so of packing, house hunting, unpacking and getting settled in a new state we are really ready for this!

Thanks Tweety for keeping the posters updated on the fact we are going. We won't be able to arrive until Sunday morning. Something about a new job and a new boss not wanting to give more time than originally agreed upon for this trip. The nerve of him! We are looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones too. Cruisemates cruises are our very favorite thing to do in life.

We are hoping to be at the hotel with some of the gang. Have contacted the company doing the pre cruise and are awaiting a response. Hopefully, we can do dinner or something the night before. Would love to have more time in Rome so I could go to Naples and visit where we used to live but it just won't work this time.

Looking forward to seeing all of you and love reading the posts regarding this or any cruise.

See ya all soon!
Linda

Hi to all our cruising friends. We just returned from our terrific Constellation cruise in the Baltics and got terrible news that my Mother has "Acute Leukemia". The prognosis is not good. Maybe a few months or a little longer. We will be going up to Kentucky quite a bit to be with her. So our status on this Liberty cruise is on
hold for now. We will keep you informed on how my wonderful Mom is doing. Take care.

Halloween party sounds like fun, but I don't know if I can find any room in my suitcase for a costume. Since we're doing B2B cruises, I may wait until I get on the ship to find something.

Jill and Larry, are you going to be on the Oct 12th sailing? How are you getting to Civitavecchia?

Sunflower:

Yes, we will be on both the Oct 12 and Oct 24 cruises. We are currently planning to take the train to the port. We have booked the Best Western Universo hotel for Oct 11. It is close to the train station. We have read on several other posts from previous travelers that the train only takes about 1 hour to the port. However, we would also consider going with a group if it could be arrainged at a reasonable price. Hope this answered your questions. Larry.

Has anyone begun planning any tours for the ports of call?

We've been to Barcelona, and Palma de Mallorca, as well as Funchal... but have never been to Malaga.

Barcelona is a fantastic city, with LOTS to see and do. Palma is a relatively easy spot to just explore on your own.

Kuki,

What are some of the "not to be missed" places in Barcelona, Mallorca or Funchal?

Do you have any recommendation on tours? Private companies or ship's tours?

Do we even need to book tours, or can we just do walking tours?

Do we dock in these ports or do we use a tender?

Hope you don't mind all my questions.

Larry, I think it would be fun to ride the train to Civitavecchia, but I don't know about handling the luggage. We will probably use the van that some are using on Cruise-Critic.

Thanks,

Mariel

In Funcal the "biggest" think to do is the "basket ride".

On other cruise lines, in Barcelona and Mallorca, they supplied free shuttles into the center of town.... so you could manage to tour on your own if you wanted to. If you haven't been before, a good tour book is a good idea... especially for Barcelona.

There's alot to see in Barcelona... so a tour of some kind might be in order. We arranged for a private driver/guide there last time, through Port Promotions.

If you could get 6 people from the group to do it together, it'd likely be cheaper than ships bus tours. Make sure you leave time for strolling Las Ramblas.

There's no tendering in any of these ports of call.

The train to Civitavecchia wouldnt be a problem. The problem might be getting the luggage from the train ship to the ship. If I recall, not many taxis around. Though that could have changed in the last couple of years.

Marie.. The town of Funchal is built on the side of a large hill overlooking the bay. For the basket ride you are shuttled to the top, and climb in big "baskets" and the "baskets" are guided/pulled/pushed down through the streets by locals.

Last time there I was suffering with some back problems, so Mrs. Kuki went without me, and enjoyed it. So... think I'll put it on my list for this visit.

Tweety.. LIKE the new artwork

Have you guys thought about shore excursions for St. Maarten???

I have been reading over on the ports of call board about http://www.lordsheffield.com/

It is a 'tall' ship that goes out for the morning/afternoon & feeds you bar-b-que & stuff & stops in a snorkeling area.

read the reviews it sounds really cool.
now, this ship only holds 25,, & is $50. pp.

the captain told me they leave at noon,, usually on sundays,,, BUT,, if we can get the ship pretty full, he can make sure we leave earlier,, & there is no problem getting back to our ship when we need to.

please book directly with the captain,Robert Ash,, robert.ash@lordsheffield.com

tell him you are with the group I mentioned,,, mention my name "muffin" (Dawn Gorsuch) so he knows that we are booking his ship.

you pay when you get on the ship.

(yes there is another place that saves you $3.pp, when booking, but you have to pay now, and I'd prefer to deal directly with the captain, so he knows you are booked)

& please reply here (& to me preferably) so we can keep a running tally as to who is booked on this excursion.

Hi,
We have been to St Maarten. It is a very dry climate and hotter than we expected. We went to Pinel Island and did a snorkel there which was pretty cool. You take a bus from the Dutch side to the French side. Then a motor boat drops you off at the island . Most of the locals are topless on the beach...no big deal but FYI in case it matters. The water is clear and the guides attract the fish with food. We saw a lot of fish. This tour was through the cruise line. Don't know what else is available there.

Basket ride sounds like fun. At least it would be something different.

We've been to St Maarten. Several of us hired a van and driver who took us all over the island. We made several stops, including Orient Beach. It's a nude beach, or as they say, clothing optional. No cameras allowed.

Muffyn... thanks for the info! I've been to St Mart several times, and don't remember seeing a tall ship, that I noticed. Sounds interesting!

Have to give it some thought.
