Default New Orleans/Priceline

Has anyone used Priceline for hotels in the New Orleans area? We are sailing the Conquest Oct 16 and would like to get two rooms for the 2 nights prior to the cruise. We are wanting to stay in the vicinity of the French Quarter for obvious reasons. Thanks, would appreciate any info possible!

We are sailing June 19 and are staying at the Omni Royal on Gravier Street.
An easy walk to the casino and french quarter. It is nice, somewhere around $107 a night and up depending on the type of room. That is what I would suggest. Check it out on the net. Remember most hotels in NO down in the quarter you usually add
$25 for parking. I know that's the pits.

We are sailing in September out of New Orleans and I used Priceline. I got a room at the Marriott on Canal Street for $50.00 ($65 after taxes).

If you will have a car - I booked parking at Machu Picchu (machupicchutours.com). They will allow you to park an extra day too (if needed). We are going on a 5 day cruise so we will drop our car off a day early, they take us to our hotel, pick us up on Monday and take us to the pier and then pick us up on our return and take us back to our car. Total for 6 days is $84.00. Not too bad since as the previous poster stated, most hotels charge approx $25 per day.

Why not park at the pier, they only charge $10 a day?

Actually the pier charges $12 a day. In March we paid $60 for our 5 day cruise out of NOLA

Still much better at $12 a day than the $25 a day at those hotels!

New Orleans pier is in a construction mess right now so I chose the Machu Picchu parking because they will allow an extra day of parking and the pier (or Fulton Garage) don't. The hotel was going to charge $24.00 + tax for one day of parking so this worked out better for us.

On priceline.com you put in a bid (reasonable) and you get what they give you.
They ask for you name are you obligated? In other words could I decline if I don't like the particular hotel that I get? I have never used this before as you can tell.

No, once you enter all information, you take what they give you. I believe I asked for a 4 Star hotel in the French Quarter area and got the Marriott. As long as you ask for a 4-5 star hotel, it should be pretty nice and specify the location. $50.00 seems to be a fairly standard reasonable rate but you can always try bidding less.

I have used Priceline to book hotels in downtown NO. Try biddingfortravel.com for tips and assistance on using Priceline. The site has a section dedicated to New Orleans.

For anyone that has booked Priceline before, we will be going on the Conquest in September (25th). I would like to also be around the French Quarter. When you put in the two areas (for example, the Marriott Canal St) do you put in just the French Quarter or what would the other one be? Also, how do you get a room for four (two adults and two kids)? Thanks

For those driving to the port in New Orleans, if you stay in a motel out towards I-10, parking is usually free. Also, if you stay in Harvey,La.(west bank ) the hotels are cheaper and they have free parking. If you do stay on the west bank side, most hotels will shuttle you toand from the ferry for free, then you can ride the ferry over to the boardwalk. From there, you have pretty easy access to anywhere you want to go..

Usually check out in a motel is around 11.00 am, which is about perfect timing to reach the port, in time to get a parking place there at the port. I have found out that if you get there to early, they'll make you wait till a certain area empties so you can park.

If you do priceline.com, always put the 5 star rating. My fishing partner does that, and he always comes out with nice rooms in major hotels there in downtown N.O, usually have price or less.
Good luck and happy sailing;
david

Tracy,

When you used priceline, did you ask for a 5 star? I need to start looking for a hotel.

We will be going out next week 5/21 on the Sensation and are staying 2 nights after the cruise. We used Priceline to book 4 rooms and received a 4 star within a 10-15 min walk to FQ. It was the Renaissance Arts Hotel. The cost was $71.00 a night with taxes after getting accepted with a bid of $60.00. after being accepted we called the hotel and requested bed types and had no problem securing what we needed. As for parking we are flying in and out so there is not a need for us to park. Hope this helps!

They have an excellent cruise package and parking is only $5/day while you are on the cruise.
