Default Smoking on Carnival

Heylo, ladies, and gents!

I'm all booked up for my first cruise (Carnival Miracle) with the family. I'm a little concerned about smoking, though. Which places onboard are smoke-free? Alternatively, where is one certain to encounter a lot of smokers?

Thanks!
Jal

Most smoky place probably is the casino

Dito on the casino, it was heavy on the Conquest.... I donated $2.00 & never went back... We did find a non-smoking lounge (Degas Lounge), you could enjoy a 3-piece band & enjoy smoke-free dancing..... May have the same on your ship....

Casino and a few of the lounges. I don't think you are allowed to smike in the big lounge. We found lots of smoke free places.

One side of the ship is non-smoking, I believe it was port (left side), you can stand out by the rails & never smell a smoker.... The piano bar in middle is also non-smoking if I remember right although I do think they were allowed to smoke at the bar nearby...

In general on ALL Carnival ships, all the dine rooms are smoke free, main show lounge is smoke free, several of the bar/smaller lounges are smoke free.

Smoking is allowed in a lounge or 2, and on 1 side only of the open deck pool areas. Staff is usually quite confused about which side is/is not smoking. I have sailed Carnival 3x and on all cruises have asked multiple deck staff (bar tenders, towel people, drink wait staff) which side is/is not. Generally get different answers from different people.

Smoke in the casino, but it didn't bother me too much - REAL good ventilation system. There is usually one bar/lounge that allows cigar smoking and that bothered my dh because on the Glory it was his FAVORITE bar (jazz music all the time).

Casino on Legend was very smokey, low ceiling and poor ventilation.

Hi Jal,

On all of our cruises we found the casinos to be pretty smoky, even with the "best" ventilation. As someone said above, the main lounge and many of the bars, and the dining rooms are non-smoking. Some of the bars have smoking areas, usually at the back. The "sports" bars have all been smoking areas.

The other smoking areas have been well marked. On the open decks, look on the "top" above the area to see if they are smoking or not. Some are starboard, some are port. If they aren't well marked on your cruise, just look for ashtrays on the tables. If they are there...

I have been on 3 carnival cruises and have never had a problem with smelling any smoke. None of our group smokes but I have never heard any f them say oh it was smokey in there. So I guess I jsut never found any smokers.... I spend plenty of time in the casinos too. HEHEHEHEHEHe Happy cruising....

I cruised on the Carnival Victory last year, & the smoking was pretty much EVERYWHERE except the dining rooms. My wife & I couldn't even sit out on our own balcony because our neighbors were chain smokers. Deck 3 doesn't go all the way through, so if you're trying to get from 1 end of the ship to the other you're forced to use Deck 5 (like when you go from dinner to the show). Of course, Deck 5 has the casino & several bars, so it's the smokiest part of the ship.

One side of the ship is supposed to be non-smoking, but it's not enforced. All of this is just one reason why I say - "NEVER AGAIN ON CARNIVAL!!"

I think I need to defend Carnival as we don't smoke either & I don't like to be around it.... But our last cruise on the Conquest did not give me a problem at all with second hand smoke.... Now we didn't do the casino or the lounges.... We did go to the Degas Lounge which is Non-Smoking where you can dance to a 3-piece band without choking on smoke.... I think that all the cruise lines will just be as smokey as Carnival....

We just sailed on Victory last week. Hardly noticed any smoke at all. I think the amount of smoke will vary greatly depending on who happens to be on the cruise.

We were driven off our balacony once by a cigar smoker next door up wind and once we were setting in the open area on deck 5 where all the tables had no smoking signs on them and a woman plopped down with her ash tray and puffed away.

The casino was ok as long as I didn't set next to someone with a cigarette lit. The bar next to the casino had one end non-smoking but I don't know why, with the amount of smoke floating from the other end.

Other than that I smelled smoke a few times but not enough to be annoying. Certainly not enough to make me stop enjoying the great time I was having.
