Need advice, please
Single mom traveling with 2 teens, ages 17 & 19 looking for a fun family vacation. Going on the Glory 8/20 (Eastern) What can you recommend to do as a family thing? If snorkeling, where is the best place to snorkel? What about jewelry shopping? Anything that we shouldn't miss? Thanks for your advice.

Nassau - you and your teens would love touring the Aquarium at Atlantis Resort. Its an amazing place. Very easy to get to, just grab a cab(either land or water) over to Paradise Island and Atlantis Resort .
St. Thomas - the best beaches and snorkeling here is over on St. John Island (IMHO), again very easy to get to, grab a cab at the pier, head to Red Hook Harbor, buy your round-trip ferry ticket over to St. John Island, once you dock in Cruz Bay grab a cab-the open air jitney's to any of the the beaches -go to this web site for valuable information- Beach in the am, come back to the ship, drop -off beach stuff, grab a bite to eat then head out to shop - you can shop either at the mall at the dockes (Havensight Mall) or you can grab a cab into downtown Charlotte Amalie, most of the same shops in both locations, but downtown has more small souvenior, crafty, and touristy stuff.
St. Maarten - if you want a really neat snorkel adventure then book ships tour over to Pineal Island. If you want to just hit the beach then Orient Beach would be the place to go, this is on the french side so the beach is topless, and there is a totally clothing optional section at the far end of the beach - clearly marked.
Another really cool excursion in St. Maarten is the Golden Eagle Catamaran Sail - we had a blast! you sail up the cost (gorgeous) over to this little island preserve (Tintamar) where you can swim, snorkel, lounge on the beach, food and beverage is provided.
As for shopping for jewelry - both St. Maarten and St. Thomas are very good ports, attend the ships shopping lectures, know your prices before you leave home, be an informed consumer. St. Maarten is much more laid-back when it comes to sales pressure than St. Thomas.

Re: Need advice, please
There is also an Americas Cup style race excursion in St. Maarten. You sail as part of a crew on a sailboat and "race" the other boats, Americas Cup style. We didn't do this excursion, but talked to several people that had and they RAVED about it. We watched part of the race from the ship and decided we would do it next time we visited St. Maarten.

mickeymom923, If you want to snorkel in st.thomas I would
say go to coki beach as it is right beside Coral World which is
an underwater observatory and the fish all hang around as
they know the food will be plentiful. also have bars and resturants
along with changing facilities and showers. also a lot easier to get
to than st.john and about $10 or $12 taxi cab charge

We did a fun catamaran excursion on St. Thomas last month. We were on the Glory and booked through the ship. This excursion leaves from the dock by open-air bus and travels to Red Hook where we got on a beautiful, smaller sized catamaran. We sailed over to St. John and anchored just off a private beach for fantastic snorkeling. There were lots of awesome, colorful fish to see. Plus, you could swim over to the beach and relax, or just stay on the boat if you prefer. There was non-alcoholic drinks included going over. Coming back there was alcoholic drinks added along with a nice buffet. They played good music (not too loud) and the sailing was spectacular. When we returned, there was plenty of time for some shopping at the harbor.

I highly recommend this excursion.

We just returned today from the 8/6 -13, 2005 Glory Eastern cruise and I wouldn't worry too much about your teens. There was a ship full of kids of all ages and all seemed to have had a great time with eachother.
