You can find this info and more on CCL website.

Drinking Alcoholic Beverages:
Guest must be 21 years of age or older to be served alcohol on board. Proper I.D. with birth date is required.

RCI allows cruisers 18 yrs and older to have beer and wine.

On RCL you have to have your parent's permission. We had to sign for our son when he was 18 stating it was ok for him to have beer and wine.

I think I can speak on this pretty well since we just got back from Carnival Victory and took a 19 y/o and 21 y/o. Carnival is fairly strict with their alcohol policy. No one under 21 will be served. Their S&S card is embedded with their age. Even if they had a fake ID, whatever age was given to Carnival when reservations were made is the age that will be embedded in the card. If they try to buy alcohol and are underage and use that card, a big red "X" will appear on the computer screen. If you buy a soda card, there is a different card for under 21 and over 21,,,it is even a different color. I will say now what my 19 y/o said after the cruise. If you use your soda card at the bars or in the shows, the waiters will know you are under 21. If you try to use your sign & sail to order alcohol, let me tell you, they will remember you as under 21. When we were at the Captains cocktail party and the past cruisers party where the alcohol is free, our 19 y/o AND 21 y/o were asked for their sign & Sail card to ID them..................One waiter told us this.........If Dad or Mom orders two drinks and I give them two drinks, I don't know what they do with the one they are not drinking, but I cannot hand someone under age an alcoholic drink......... We allow our 19/y/o to drink wine with dinner at home and I'm sure she drinks at college............it was sort of a downer for her. I did go to the bar around the pool and order two drinks, put them on my S&S and then could give one to whomever I pleased. With Carnival....................it's plain old 21!!!!!!!

My experience is similar to boostermom. They would not serve my 18 year old nephew directly, although they had no problem serving me an extra drink to give to him, even when they knew that's what I was doing.
