Default birthdays on carnival

Hey everyone!

It is my boyfriend's birthday Nov 21st....we set sail the 20th. I just scheduled to have the room decorated on the day we embark and got a cake to be given at dinner on his birthday. I got the vanilla with strawberry.

Has anyone done either of these things. It cost me 42 dollars, but I hope it is worth it.

Be sure you tell your cabin steward and your waiter. You never know when they might surprise you with something!

We sailed over my daughters 19th birthday and when her birthday came they surprised her at dinner with a small individual sized cake with a candle in it and sang happy birthday to her. She really seemed to enjoy it and the best thing about it was the price. FREE. Priceless.

We've done cake twice on Carnival, both times the chocolate. Delicious.

jessalyn,
Wow ! Thats a great way to start off a cruise. I don't think you'll be sorry ! And they will come to your table and give him a individual cake, and sing happy birthday to him. I've seen them do that on every cruise I've been on.
Take some pictures, That way you can enjoy the moment for years to come !

Hope you have a great cruise;
david

I did this for my best friend when we cruised a few years ago. I had the cabin decorated and ordered the cake, which we did not even touch, so that was a waste of money. She still talks about the decorations. Our waiter brought a cake to the table one night after dinner, and there was more than enough for 5 of us. It was a chocolate cake with chocolate icing and it was to die for! And it was free!

The cakes are now available at a nominal charge. However, if you don't want to buy one, your waiter will put a candle on any of the yummy desserts served that night. On our last cruise, when the cakes were still free, we had one for my husband, but didn't eat it because we wanted a dessert that was on the menu. Anyway, our waiter boxed it up for us, and around 11pm that night, we brought it, along with 5 or 6 forks, to our kids who were with friends at the ping pong tables. Cake was gone in seconds! If it wasn't for them, it would have gone to waste. Just too many other things to eat.

Yes, Carnival now charges for "special occasion cakes" no more freebies.
The cabin decorations in 2001 were great, worth it-enjoyed the whole trip.
One our cruise last July I saw a really neat decorated cabin door: it was metallic streamers with a Hawian theme. Like the old beaded room dividers of the 1960's. I think a hanging door decoration like this can be found at any party store, cheap and really caught my eye anytime we passed that cabin. Hey even a Happy Birthday cardboard sign taped up with Sponge Bob on it would certainly generate a smile.
We also ordered a vanilla and strawberry cake--very good by the way. I think I'd prefer the birthday candle from the waiter though if I had to spend money.

I read somewhere whatever age you start on cruise is considered his age--
is that true?? He wouldn't be considered legal age?

I ordered a cake for my daughter on the Celebration. I had it served on formal night. She enjoyed it (8yrs old). There were about 5 waiters that sang happy birthday to her. She was surprised and everything. I ordered the vanilla/strawberry cake. She like it, me personally only like the frosting.

you should have waited the night of his birthday and dinner and a small cake
and singing is free. you should not have paid for this. your travel agent should
have asked you ....

I am planning on celebrating my son birthday and didn't realized that you could have the cabin decorated. What a surprise that would be for him. Thank you all for the information. I am ordering the choclate cake but a strawberry short-cake would be up my alley. I am going to call quest services to see if it can be arranged. Again thank you all for the information.

Yes, I have done this. Although, we carry our own decorations. I always go to see the Matre'd and order a cake. It doesn't cost much.

My cruise group does this every cruise. Regardless of whether it is actually someone's birthday or not. We create un-birthday's if no one is having a real birthday. The last cruise everyone was in on it. We gave my db a surprise birthday. It was fun. By the way, it wasn't his birthday.

Since our youngest son's birthday is in July....he has had 3 cruise "birthdays". Last month we were on the Spirit (Alaska) and we simply ordered the cake (with his name on it) from the Maitre D'. The waiters and a few helpers brought it out and sang "Happy BurstDay" . It happen to fall on the first formal night. He turned 14 and loved all the attention. We were never charged for the cake, btw. I kept asking what I needed to sign...but the waiter and Maitre D' just winked at me. I attribute it to all four of us being Platinum members....but who knows...maybe it was my good looks. HA HA HA

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary on the Carnival Victory...we had told our TA that it was our ten year anniversary that is why we were going on the cruise. The first formal night we went to dinner and then out of no where come five people singing with this cake, and a bottle of wine. I was extremely embarrassed but yet touched! the wine was great and the cake moist and delicious and it didnt cost us anything but a smile!!
