Default air arrangements

does anyone have advice regarding whether to let the cruise line book our air vs. doing it ourselves?
We plan to cruise from NY, on the Imagination out of Miami, during President's week, and are concerned about snow interfering with our travel plans.
Should we book it ourselves for FRI. prior to Sat departure, also giving us the option of a non-stop flight, or just go with CCL bulk rate from NY to Miami? How about air ticket prices? ARe we likely to get a non-stop flight from NY to MIami if we book thru CCL?
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

I check airfare both ways. Most time its cheaper to book it yourself and you can arrange the flight times that suit your schedule. I always fly in the day before and stay overnight. It make for a nice stress free way to start your vacation. For our upcoming cruise the airfare through Carnival was over $250/pp roundtrip. I got airfare on my own, non-stop, for $59 each way. With four of us traveling it more than pays for the hotel and food for one night. By flying in the day before you don't have to worry about flight delays and making the ship on time. Also, I would buy travel insurance, just in case. A great site is insuremytrip.com.

We're taking a really early flight on Wednesday so we'll be in Tampa by 10:00 a.m. Plan to spend the day at Busch Gardens. On the return we have a late flight (7:00 p.m.) so we'll get to spend another day there. By doing that we get two more days of vacation in!
