Going on the Destiny Feb 2006 cruise but the airfares are high ($450-550) from Wash. DC. We are thinking of cancelling and going on another cruise going out of Florida.
Hope the fares go down!
You are right - they are high. But we really have our hearts set on doing the southern caribbean route. So - we figured if we're going to pay high dollars, we might as well book through Carnival - that way we at least know that our plane will get us there. Since we can't drive to San Juan - we decided we would rather pay a little more and be assured that we will get to the ship.
Plus - since we don't go until next May - who knows what the prices of gas will do to flights by then.
Maybe flights will get better before you have to book - good luck
I booked Destiny for June and have been watching airfares from Columbus, Ohio. They have been anywhere from $450 to $750. I am not ready to cancel my cruise, I am just going to continue to watch and hope airfare goes down.

Hi Tom,
Yes, airfares to San Juan are always on the high side. I feel though, that its worth it, once you are there and get going on the cruise, you can see more islands from there, less sea days as well. I would re-think your plans and look at the itinary?? You can also keep checking airfares and see if you can find a bargain one, that sometimes happens, but unlikely.
Try spirit airlines if they go from your city or around. They sometimes have good deals. Jelala, might be a drive for you to Detroit, but yet might be worth it! I've used them even into Fort Lauderdale!

We used to live in Baltimore and my parents still do. We have watched the airfare to san jaun from there alot because we would like to go to the south again. We have only gone once. But as long as I have been watching the airfare from the BWI area I haven't seen it go under 500 dollars. That is as much as the cruise so we have never gone back. I think when we sailed on the Fascination southern in 2000 we paid about 350 a person. That was quite a while ago. I was suprised when I looked to fly to SJ from FL where we lived noe it is still about 300 a person. So far I haven't wanted to go to SJ bad enough to pay the airfare. Cindy
Sometimes you can find a better fare if you can go a day early or return a day after the cruise ends. We did that the last week of April last year, I kept searching and found a great deal on American, flew in on Sat. , cruise left on Sun, and we returned the Monday after the cruise ended. We spent what we saved on hotels for the two nights, but it extended our vacation and gave us time to relax and enjoy some time seeing San Juan. I know it is hard to do sometimes because of needing to get back to work, but by using 6 vacation days, we ended up with a 10 day trip. We got Boston non stop round trip to San Juan for $268, lowest I've ever paid. Think with the prices of gas, we'll probably never see a bargain like that again.
