Default Port in San Juan - what's close?

We'll be flying into San Juan for our Destiny cruise - and since we're booked through Carnival - I don' t know yet what time are flight will be. Can anyone tell me how far ahead that information is typically released? Also - if we get in early enough - we may decide to sign in and drop our things on the ship. Then if we have time - it might be nice to get off the ship and look around the immediate area a little, since we don't depart until 10 PM. Is there anything fairly close around in that port area for us to see or do? Or should we just spend the time on the ship. (Of course, if our flight is a late one, that won't even be a possibility)
Thanks

Sorry I don't have any answers for you. But we will be on that ship in Feb 06, so I'd like to see what you find out. Have a great cruise and keep me posted how you liked it.

There are a multitude of things right there at the pier. I don't see why your plan wouldn't work

Thanks much.... If there are things right there by the pier - then I'm sure we'll find a few things to do. Our trip isn't until May - and as I said - once we get info on our flight - we'll have a better idea of how much time we'll have.

The ship docks in Old San Juan, a gem of historical treasures, art galleries, great restaurants, lovely cobble-stone streets and paseos and, of course, shops.

Enjoy.
