Default Excursions in San Juan...info anyone?

Hi all I will be in the Eastern Carribean end of October...we will be going to San Juan..is it ok that we did not book an excursion? We will be getting in around 5 pm..is it safer to book with carnival to see the sights there? I was told you could just go on your own to the city and go to some place called Senor Frogs..where is that? Any help would be appreciated...
I booked excursion for St. Thomas and St. Maarten, looks like I will be done with the excusrsions in time to go off on our own, are the shopping areas right near the port? Thanks ahead of time for anyones help HAPPY CRUISING!!
March 06' cruising again!!!!
