HOLY COW I assume this is when they moved her away from shore in attempts to dodge Rita? I wonder where the pictures where taken? Possibly from one of the other FEMA chartered ships? Maybe the Holiday or Sensation? Or I guess possibly a Naval ship escorting her since she is in the control of the United States Government for the duration of the charter. I don't think Bonine would help me on that one.
Yes, this is when they moved her out to sea from the harbor. She bobs and bounces but keeps on going.
Just think of the headlines if there had been passengers on board. (They would have moved her earlier) "Tsunami Cruiseship Disaster" The lawyers would have been lined up at the dock.
Take care,
Mike

I am really glad that was not my cruise. Must have been terrible for those aboard.

Reminds me of my first cruise back in '78 aboard the USS Hoist, a US Naval salvage ship. The biggest difference is the Hoist is only about 200 feet long. We were in the Atlantic heading from Norfolk to Philly and ran into some 40' to 50' seas and everyone, and I mean everyone including the captain was green around the gills. I was coming down a flight of stairs and looking for a rest room and the executive officer saw me and even let me use the officers rest room (head). Then yelled at me when I came out for waiting too long to find the enlisted mens head.
Looks like a great ride! It is unusual for cruiseships to be in that type of rough water but they are more than able to handle it. When the seas get that rough the most dangerous thing other than falling overboard is in the aft or bow part of the ship. The deck can drop right out from under you and then as you are falling downward it can rise up rapidly and smash into you. Many sailors have suffered broken legs and ankles in this type weather as well as arms and blunt trama from hitting things. Of course Navy ships have this tendency to move about more than Cruise ships. Still, damn rough!

Someone imformed me that there were 550 crew members on board, and 100 passengers that were still on from New Orleans. I would love to hear from some of them.
Ride um Cowboy. Helen and our 2 oldest kids were on a ship in the Pacitic once when they had this kind of weather. They tell about this ride often. It was a Typhoon and it had changed directions suddenly and the Navigator did not have time to avoid the storm. They tell it they were the only ones onboard who did not get sick. And too the Captain did not get sick so he invited our oldest son to come up to the bridge. Ofcourse Helen and Kay went also. It was an experience they will never forget.
Holy Smoke what a ride!!!!!!!!
Those were amazing pictures and tells me not to go on a cruise during hurricane season.
Unbelieveable I read of rough weather but didn't imagine it looked like that on a cruise ship.
Yep I'm staying home that done it for me I'll pay the extra dollars if I have to and go during calm waters.
