Have heard reports from another web site that Chankanaab Park is gone. They said it had been completely destroyed from hurricane Wilma. Also heard that Paradise Beach was very severely damaged. Does anybody have facts or pictures? This is so sad. My heart goes out to the people who live there who lost everything, and are counting on tourism. Our ship was supposed to go there in April, but I'm guessing thats not likely.
From what I have read, it is completely wiped out. The buildings and beach have vanished. Cozumel suffered terribly and I'm sure it will take some time to rebuild, if they decide too.
I was just there, at the park last month on the Valor. I loved it, it was such a beautiful place. I did a sea lion swim there and it breaks my heart that it is gone. I am wondering about the animals too.
last year we visted the chanknaab park we did the dolphine encounter
it was the frist time i touch and kiss the dolphine we even bought the tape
they took of us with the dolphins afer the dolphins we went to the ruins
of the park and they told us all about the mayans we had such a good day
that park i'm sad to hear about the park i wonder what happen to the dolpins i hope they can rey build cozumel its was a great place to vist
The area is not gone, all the buildings have been destroyed and all the infrastructure needs to be rebuilt. Currently Cozumel has suffered horribly and pretty much everything has some degree of damage and most of it is very severe including the piers. Still no power or phones there nor any other facilities to speak of but they are rebuilding as fast as possible not only for the local people who live there, but for tourism which is the root of all their economy. It will take a bit to get things going again but they will be ready for tourism fairly quickly. The damages will be visable for many, many years and they will not be back to 'normal' for a number of years but they wil survive and rebuild.

cruisinforever, I couldn't find the information about Chankanaab Park. There was so much information on that website. Can you pinpoint where you learned that the park wasn't "gone." We're on the Conquest December 11 sailing & sure would like to know if there was a chance of going there.
P.S. I was born in Haverhill.
Scampi, go to www.Chankanaab Park look at all the sites and one of them will tell you closed 'til November 30th. We too will be cruising on JOS Dec. 11. If ships do go to Cozumel we will be tendered in. They desperately need our revenue to sustain them as tourism is their main income.
Sorry Betty but your URL did not get me anywhere. I tried to add a .com to it but that did nothing either to give me the info you said you got.
Would you please try again?
