first timer on Carnival Destiny excursion help please
going on my first cruise with my wife and another couple. Doing the southern Caribbean cruise Jan 1st 2006, San Juan, St. Thomas, Dominca, Barbados, Aruba. What are the must do's and must not do's at each of these stops.
Well, unfortunately, can't tell you anything about those ports - but I'll be interested to hear responses - as we are going on the Destiny in May. I wish OURS was as close as yours!! It's our second cruise - but the first one to the Southern Carib. We absolutely loved the first one..... and I expect this one will be just as great.
We have a great interest in snorkeling - so if any of you can tell me the best snorkleing spots on this itinerary - I would really appreciate it.
1st Cruise - Carnival Inspiration - August 2004
2nd Cruise - Carnival Destiny - May 2006
ironranger, the one thing you forgewt to mention is your age.
st.thomas you can go to trunk bay on the island of st.john
or to coki beach if you want to snorkel and then into town to
shop, shop shop, or right beside the ship is a place called
havensight mall that has almost the same stores as downtown.
dominica I would do the tram ride through the rain forest,but\plan on getting a little wet. not much shopping here.
barbados has a few great beaches and since you're there until
10 at night you can do the beach and then also enjoy the night life.
aruba the town ands country tour is very nice and also the beaches
are just great here. also you can shop as downtown is within walking
distance from the boat. casino's here and don't forget carlos and charlies.
my wife and I have been on the destiny 4 times and have always had
a great time so go and have a great time but don't try and do everything
because you'll wear yourself out, relax and enjoy. any other questions feel
free to e-mail me [/b]
We went on this cruise last Jan. with friends and are going again this Jan.
We go on a cruise every year and rarely do excursions thru the cruise line itself. We typically go on our own because it is cheaper, better and less "cattle herding". In St. Thomas we get off the ship first thing and grab one of the many cabs that will be waiting. Last time we headed to Sapphire Beach to lay out and snorkel(which you can rent there). The time befpre we went to Magens Bay for the day. We leave by 3 to shop and go back on. In Dominica we grabbed a driver who gave us the tour of the island sights. In Barbados we went to a beach that we were not thrilled with so wil go elsewhere this time. In Aruba we walked off the ship and rented a jeep for $100 for the 4 of us. These rentals are right off the ship. We did the CA lighthouse natural bridge(no longer there) and then found our way to Baby beach forlaying out and snorkelling. We had to have the jeep back at 6 so we ate on board and then went out at night into town. So that is our "excursions". Have fun!!
Jay the must do out of all the things I wrote is definately to rent the jeep in Aruba--it is a blast. It is like driving on the moon. Be sure to have your digital cameras with you for the day. Also Baby Beach is the easiest snorkeling I have ever done with lots of colorful fish. Bring along some cereal to feed them.
