My wife and I are sailing on the Triumph on Dec 31. We are fun energetic people. Any suggestions about what to do on shore would be appreciated. Should we try the cruise excursions or book with a local company and wing it on our own.
As in St Thomas, take an island tour. Go to both the French and Dutch sides and wander around the shops and soak up the local flavor. Orient beach is beautiful and you can Parasail there. It is tops optional in all places and totally nude on one end so be aware of that.
We too are travelling on the Triumph on the 31st. St. Maarten is a beautiful island, with great duty free shopping. We like Cupecoy Beach (nude beach) with amazing ?limestone cliffs and private grottos the entire length of the beach, and an amazing view of the smaller islands off shore. It's a 20 min. cab ride through some neat scenery, and not nearly as busy as some of the other beaches. Shop, shop, shop
Wow guys! I think we shall go to that beach next time we are there. I don't care one way or the other about the nudity but the discription of the beach itself sounds great! Of course for those of you that are offended by nudity it is best to stay off those tops or clothing optional beaches. They are not going to change and being vocal against them just ticks off the locals.
We are going to be on the Triumph Feb 25th please let me know what you did on the islands and the approx cost. Will be travelling with my hubby and two teenage daughters. Also how the ship looks I know it is/was in drydock. thank you much!!

You must go to the beach attached to the airport - lay down in the sand - and be DIRECTLY underneath any incoming airplanes.....including jumbo jets. Just word of warning - do NOT be on the beach when a plane takes off unless you are prepared to be blown in to the ocean along with all of your belongings.............from experience. St. Maarten is great! We always rent a jeep at the dock and drive the island ourselves. Very easy to get around. Have a great time.
If you like to snorkel i would suggest booking a ships excursion to Pineal Island. Another fun excursion is the America's Cup Regatta - you get to race a sailing yacht in an actual race, you can crew the boat or just realx and have fun. We also love the Golden Eagle Catamaran sail. You have a nice sail up the coast -which is gorgeous. You sail over to a small island preserve where you can swim, snorkel, relax on the beach, take a mud bath( the sand is volcanic, it leaves your skin very soft). All of the above excursion you need to book with the cruise line.
