Default Sail & Sign Question

Does anyone know how much of a hold they put on your credit/dedit card for onboard purchases? Was told by someone who went on Carnival last year that it is up to you as to how much you want held. I am thinking about taking about $200-$300 in travelers checks as well for port purchases and tips. Sailing sunday on Victory.

Hi, I sailed on the Inspiration in October and Carnival required at least
$150.00 dollars or a credit card on hold for Sail and Sign purchases.
If you can use a credit card. It is less trouble and you don't have to
go to the Pursers Desk at the beginning and end of your cruise to settle
the account. I am booked on the Victory in April and would love to hear
your thoughts on the ship. Please give me your review at fine@ccrtc.com.
I have cruised 6 times (5 on Carnival) and really love to cruise. I also
have helpful hints to offer. Have a great cruise.
Happy Sailing............

Hi there...

well this is my job so I can tell you.

We will hold on the card, at forst $50...and as you start to spend more, the card will automatically be authorised for a little more.
So if you have spend 100...we will probably be holding around 130...always giving you that bit of credit...

At the end of the cruise, you can choose to pay this in cash, and the hold on the card will be relaesed, or just leave it on the card and we will charge what you spent and release the rest.

Any other questions...feel free to ask...I have been a purser for 3 years...

Wow that is not what I was told. I still think a credit card is easier.
I wouldn't want to go to the Pursers Desk several times during my cruise
to put more $$ in my account.!

The wife and I start out with a CC. At the end of the cruise, we'll go down and pay off our account. Or, we'll just let the bill come in, and then pay it off. It just really depend our what you want to do.

What ever your decision is, I'm sure you'll have a great cruise.

Cruising bears, what Emma is saying is that they basically keep a $50 cushion on your CC. You do not have to go to the pursers office to keep adding money. We have always used a CC and paid it off when we get the first bill in the mail. We even have this 'special' CC that we only use for cruising.

PS Thanks Emma
