What is a good rule of thumb for bringing cash aboard? We are doing a 7 day cruise. I am thinking 300-500 dollars but would love to hear from other folks as to what they do. Thanks in advance.
Hi Jeff,
A lot will depend on how much you want to gamble onboard, shop, etc. A good rule of thumb is $100 per day, thats usually more than enough. Your tips can go on your sign/sail account to them be charged to your credit card, so no need for cash for that. We always start with that and end up bringing cash back home, which is fine. Most of the islands will take credit cards too, so keep that in mind.
I plan $100/pp per day and always bring money home. Any large purchases can be made on a credit card. For a 7 day cruise I bring about $500 in cash, making sure I bring plenty of ones and fives, and the rest in travler's checks.
Thats about right. The wife and I usually bring around $500.00 in cash plus parking expenses.
We let all of our onboard purchases go to our sail and sign account, and pay cash for purchases on the Islands and the wife has her share to go to the casino . And we still have some left over.
Enjoy your cruise;
David

I'm a single cruiser and I usually like $300 cash available. Most purchases go on my credit card. I always take at least $50 in ones for tips to cabbies, porters, tour guides, room service, etc.
I don't gamble much, and don't purchase many drinks on board. I usually end up bringing around $100 back home.
If I am flying in a day or two pre-cruise, I always take more cash.

we just took a 5 day on the Inspiration and we spent $360. That included our tips, one 8x10, a few smoothies and our shore excursions...so it adds up FAST! Take too much and bring the rest home with you!
