Default Need Old San Juan Hotel near piers!

We are going on the Carnival Destiny Feb 12, 2006 and arriving the day before the cruise leaves. We also would like to stay at a hotel near where the ship docks.
Can anyone recommend lodging for that area?
Tommy

It would be good to book now because the I am having a bit of trouble finding a hotel in my price range in old san juan for a Destiny booking on March 12. The Convento is within a short taxi ride to the pier and it is real nice but kind of pricey. The old hotel Plaza de Armas is right on the town square which is close to the pier but I think they were bought out by Howard Johnsons or some corportation who "renovated" and then quadrupled the prices. I know a locally owned one that is within actual walking distance of the ship, but rather not put it on a public message board. John NM [email protected]

The Olde San Juan Wyndham is now a Sheraton.

Here's a picture from the rooftop pool to show the proximity to the ship.

Sheraton Old San Juan is directly across the street from the older pier where Destiny docks.....you can walk to the ship from that hotel without a taxi. Stayed there one night pre-cruise in May 2004 when it was still the Wyndham and it was fine for one night and convenient to exploring Old San Juan which is behind the hotel and up the hill. You can walk to the shops and explore the old city, even to the forts although those are a bit of a hike. There was a small roof-top pool which we didn't use, a casino where we spent a few hrs after dark, and a Senor Frogs behind it where we had lunch. Our ship was at the international pier, so we needed a taxi, but I think for Destiny, that hotel would be just right as to location. Not sure what the rates would be, winter is high season down there.

Default Old San Juan hotel

my wife and I stayed at the Sheraton when we cruised
on the destiny in dec.2004 It is a very nice hotel with
some of the best bedding I have ever slept on. right
across from the pier where the ship docks and the
hotel will bring your luggage to the ship for you so
all you have to do is walk right across the street with your
carry-ons and board the ship.very easy. enjoy and have
GREAT CRUISE AND RELAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would highly recommend the El Convinto. It is an old convent converted to a hotel. We stayed there and really enjoyed it. It is just a block from the pier and right in the middle of all the shops. It is right across from the cathedral

Reminds me of the Convint San Tanco. Any nun sightings in the air?

Unfortunately, I have tried the Sheraton, but is too expensive ($350/night)
Other less expensive hotels only allow 2 or more days.
I don't know what to do!

Just reserved a room at the Excelsior Hotel (a mile from piers) for $119.
The reviews were ok.

Hi,
We stayed in San Juan 2 years ago pre cruise and then 3 days post cruise. We stayed at the "REGENCY HOTEL", it is owned I believe by the same owners of the Condado, therefore you can use all the ammenities at that hotel(though we only walked over, we were happy with our own pool). Anyway, the cost then was $150 night and the rooms are huge. Not new, not the best, but very nice. Check out my review also. But you can google the hotel and find it. OH, the room we had had a balcony and we could see the ships from our door. The taxi ride was only about $15, ask before you get in the car, they are really negotiable too.

Have fun! We loved the Destiny and San Juan.
