I emailed Carnival questioning the VIP Check-in for Platinum cruisers. This is the reply I got:

Frequently Asked Questions:
"Carnival's VIP Check-In is an exclusive service designed to afford our Platinum guests and those traveling in deluxe suite accommodations, with special registration priviledges. This service IS NOW AVAILABLE in Miami, Ft Lauderdale, Port Canaveral, Los Angeles(Long Beach)...(other ports listed). If you are entitled to these special services, please ask for our VIP Check-In immediately upon arriving at the cruise terminal."
IMHO, they should not put it on their website until they are ready to fully implement it. When people see this and then don't get it, it leaves a bad taste in their mouths. Especially since VIP check-in has been one of the most requested perks that I have read on the various boards.
Carnival had already ruffled a few feathers because this "platinum" system varied so greatly from ship to ship. We were on the Spirit in July and got the Canapes each formal night, as well as the Logo item, and other miscellaneous perks. However, other ships were not doing that at the time. It doesn't come off as being very professional.
We are headed out on the Pride on March 12th... (our family of four are all Platinum) we will see how it goes.
Don't get me wrong...we still love Carnival. (or else we would not have cruised them exclusively since 1982) But they need to get their act together on this kind of stuff.
