Default Just back from Cozumel for those who asked me to tell

For those who asked me to report back. We just did the Elation for 5 days and got back Sat.

Cozumel is better than I expected. The trees seem to tell the tale more than the buildings. Trees were stripped bare but with a little green starting to grow back. Course the building were under construction. Course they always are working on building something there. You could tell some were damaged by the storms but looked almost like normal there. Dropped anchor out from Puerta Maya (sp?) pier next to International pier. So on other end of town. Went into San Miguel though. Most shop are open business as usual. But Forum shops, 2 story kinda mall building at Carnival pier, most not open. Talked to others who went into "old" part of town or the square and said hotels and building more damaged and boarded up they saw as rode to and from there. Others we met did snorkle trips and such and said was great.

Didn't go to Paradise beach as planned cause was cloudy and thought might rain. Didn't, but just shopped.

Hope that helps.

Default Cozumel January 2006

We just got back home after being on the Carnival Conquest on Sunday Jan 29. Our day in Cozumel was very nice (as always to us). We tendered in with no problems and went to a few shops in town. Most hotels are heavily damaged and under repair and some new construction as well. We did go to Paradise beach and loved it. The water was too cold for us, but many did go swimming. The lounge chairs and umbrellas are free and they have nice clean bathroom facilities as well as food and beverage. The only requirement was a $10.00 food/beverage purchase and that included both of us. If you want to spend add'l $8.00 you can use the other water sport items. The waiter took our orders at our lounge chairs and brought our food/drinks to us.

The taxi ride was $13.00 each way for the 2 of us.

There were two women on the beach who did not realize that it was not a topless beach and were topless (with no tan lines) . They were asked by a waiter to replace their tops (after 45 minutes or so).

On the way we passed the area where we normally dock and shop and it was very torn up, but being repaired.

Poncho's backyard which had been at the dock has re-opened in town according to our taxi driver.
