We are traveling on the Conquest 2/19. Transfers directly through Carnival seem expensive. Any suggestion for more economical way to get to Galveston? Also, how long of a drive is it from Houston to Galveston?
For our cruise in April, we are renting a car in Houston and dropping it off in Galveston. My brother is doing the same for his February cruise. It appears to be cheaper, plus we don't have to wait for a shuttle.

What car rental company are you using. Some ppl on message board said go through Enterprise, but I just called them and they said they do not offer a one way and drop off in Galveston from Houston.
I can't imagine renting a car for an hours drive is cheaper than just booking a ride on the shuttle through Carnival, especially if you're talking about only two people..

We are traveling on March 12th, will arrive on March 11th renting a car $100.69. Yes more expensive but will have car for shopping, can drive to Galveston when we want to, no lines or waiting.
If you fly into Houston Hobby Airport, then Galveston is less then an hour away..If you fly into Bush you are more then 2 1/2 hours away
Teh challenge (I never say problem) with the shuttles is that you better give yourself 3-4 hours commute time each way because of the bad traffic in Houston area..most have spare time getting to the ship, time is tight going back to the airport
since new orleans is about a 6 hour drive to Galveston we drove and left our car at the hotel (Holiday Inn across the street from the water..if you want to see Galveston or get something to eat, yea it probably makes sense to rent a car on a one way deal..talk to different rent a car companies and see what you can work out
carnival also provides a shuttle from the pier back to the airport, so you could rent the car one way
We are picking up the car Saturday night at George Bush Intl. and dropping it Monday morning in Galveston. The total cost for a standard sized vehicle through Enterprise is $72.41. My brother had to pay $110 through Hertz because he needed a Sunday evening drop off.
