Default vip check-in?

First time cruiser and first time to write anything on this website but I have been reading and following for quite some time. It's been very helpful to gather info and get answers to alot of questions I've had. My wife and I are taking our first cruise in april on Valor and just received our paper work. We have booked a cat.11 suite and have read were people discuss vip check-in. There was no mention of this in our papers however. Is this something we find out about when we get to the ship for check-in or should I contact someone prior to arriving in Maimi. Thanks for everyones help out there. We are really looking forward to our first cruise experience.

I'm not sure (not real experienced either!), but on the front of your docs, (in the open window of the blue folder if it is closed), it should say your name, cruise date, booking number, etc. Does it say VIP checkin-Skippers Club?

I booked a balcony guarantee. My docs say this, but I still don't have a room number. I've been told I've probably been bumped up to a suite.

Yes, you qualify for Skipper's Club check in with a Cat 11 suite. Just ask a Carnival rep at the pier where the Skipper's club check in is.

Welcome Tmbdad,
Its great to hear you've received useful information from this site before your first cruise. I'm sure you will have a great time, what a way to start cruising with a suite, enjoy that. Bet, when you go to book the next cruise you will have to have a balcony cabin, they really make cruising a very memoriable expierence..

Be sure to post again after your cruise and tell us all about it!

All cruises I have taken offer an expedited embarkation/debarkation for its VIP and suite guests. Once you get to the dock, a VIP/suite line should be clearly marked. Also, some cruise lines have 'expediters' who will preview your documents, so have your passport, cruise tickets and visas, if required in hand. They will direct you to the 'fast lane'. Try to arrive at the doc about two hours after they first open to passengers. NEVER arrive early!!!

I had VIP Skippers Club check-in on my cruise and it was great. No line and a nice lounge. Just ask when you get to the terminal where it is and its great. I felt extra spoiled by it. Have a great cruise.

tmbdad,
First, we always arrive at the port around 10 am. I have no choice as my DH is so excited and would be there earlier if he could but I take my time getting ready... In our recent experience with all cruiseline Priority Embarkation, check in was about 10-15 minutes, a private waiting lounge, then a personal escort to the security check in where they take your Sail and Sign card picture, then away we go, sometimes being the 1st ones on the ship after the wedding parties. Also, we have noticed with Priority check in, our luggage arrives within 1 or 2 hours. So after a lite lunch and exploring a very empty ship, we unpack and organize our cabin with plenty of time before the muster drill. It does spoil you!

If you go there at 10:00 am, do they start the check in right away?

I thought they opened the " gates " (lol) at 12:00 pm?

We are sailing May 13/06 on the Triumph!

Each port is different. Our luggage is always taken by the porters and sometimes the check in counters don't open till 11 am but we are still the 1st ones at the Priority counter. This last check in at San Pedro, we were dropped off at 10:30, walked up to the Platinum check in counter and checked right in. Went to the lounge and at 11:30 am we were escorted to the ship. It all depends on how soon they can clear the ship from the previous passengers.

tmbdad:

Welcome aboard. We too learned a ton from this site when we were researching our first cruise.

When are you sailing the Valor? We sail her eastern route on 4/9.

Enjoy your first cruise.

We are sailing 4/2 the Western trip. We sail out of Miami and have never been down there either so we are going down friday to enjoy a couple of days on south beach. It's a 25th wedding anniversary trip we've looked forward to for a long time. Only 4 more weeks. I haven't seen anyone else mention going on this trip. Hope we run into some nice people on the boat.

Have a good time on the Eastern trip!
