Default Packing ideas - What are your "must-haves"?

I'm getting my suitcase filled, I leave on the Imagination on Thursday... Any tips on what not to forget? Or maybe some tips on what I should forget??

I want to be the one on the cruise who, when my friends ask "if only we had..." I can say "well, I've got that!!!"

Help me out!

A trash bag or two for dirty clothes. One or two bags of laundry detergent from home. (They do have them on the ship, but it's cheap just to grab a few from home)
Aloe Vera

1. Bungy cords to keep balcony door open.
2. Duct tape.
3. Long plastic hanging shoe storer. It hangs over the inside of the bathroom door, so my wife can put all her crap in it. It keeps all her stuff out the way.
4. Walkie-talkies.
5. Liquor.

This may sound silly, but I've seen it happen So, don't forget your doc's, birth cert. or passport, and printed fun pass.

Also mark your luggage with a bright colored tape, so it can be easily found.
I also put 2- luggage tags on each piece. 1-high,(on handle) 1-low ( on zipper).

When in ports of call, what ever time the captain has given to set sail, be on the ship at least 30 minutes before. I like to be on the ship 1-hour before sailing myself..
On every cruise I've been on, there has been somebody left standing at the pier. Some people actually think that the ship will not sail without them. Wrong That man will leave you

Happy sailing ;
David

Highlighter for marking the Capers and sticky note pad for leaving notes - both for my family and our room steward.

A small pump bottle of liquid soap for hand washing in the bathroom. Much neater than the bar of soap they provide you.

Thanks Jocko. I might try that next time. I agree with everyone here. We don't bring a power strip we just bring an extention cord. To us it's easier to pack by sticking it in a shoe.

We have been taking a room deorderizer, the free standing adjustable kind. I just put it in an inconspicious place and it really makes the room smell fresh.

We love bringing the ziplock bags. When in the Caribbean, we always put a wet wash cloth in one. Then we have something to refresh ourselves during or after a hot excursion.

I didn't need it on my trip. However, I did see plenty of suitcases when getting ready to debark that were held together with a lots of duct tape.

I love cruise-mates... this was exactly the advice I needed! I always draw a blank when I start putting together my packing list...

I love the bubbles idea! No kids in our group, but still think its such a festive way to say farewell to all the land-lubbers! If I blow bubbles off the boat, will this be a problem to anyone?

I agree on the Post it note pad. I leave messages for cabin steward and family. I haven't cruised with out it yet.

As far as anything else, I used to be a major overpacker, but since I started following the "When in doubt, leave it out" policy, I have much less luggage. I leave in the morning for a 4 night cruise and I am taking only a carry on size bag. I haven't once wished I had taken something that I left out.

I also pack sandals that go with everything (neutral color sandals), not a pair of shoes for every outfit I take. I now only pack four pair for 7 day or longer cruises (dressy, flip flops, sneakers, sandals) - this leaves a lot of room in my suitcase.

Instead of post it notes, I packed one of those locker sized dry erase message boards. It is magnetic and sticks to the door. It was perfect for leaving each other messages - especially since I was the first one up and out each morning.

Over the door shoe rack should not be forgotten. It was invaluable!!!

Ditto on the extra extension plugs/cords

I go on the imagination on May 4th. Let me know how your trip went and if there's any information I might need to be made aware of. This is my first cruise and I'm meeting up with a gf and her bf from Chicago. Thanks and I hope you had a great time!

all the above and:

A small flashlight, for checking under the bed for lost stuff, emergencies, etc.
An alarm clock, most cabin don't have one
Plastic wire ties (in home depot electrical isle) to secure luggage zippers.
A digital camera with large (half GIG) memory card and extra batteries.
Arrange for transfere from hotel to port upon check in.
Organize tickets, documents, passports, rental car docs, etc in a plastic folder with multiple pockets with lables.

I am taking my first cruise this Sept. and I've been checking out the site for tips. I keep seeing "bring a power strip". What do you need that for?

Rechargeable batteries for the digital camera, plenty of memory cards, nightlight, flashlight, extra sunblock, lotion and aloe, medications, first aid kit, bug repelant, a hat with a string is good won't blow off your head, phone numbers for emergencys, and of all your credit card companys just incase you lose your card or wallet, I must have my insulated water bottle! Saves a fortune on bottled water! I like those Oil of Olay cleansing cloths in case I want to wash my face and Im on an excursion I just go in the bathroom and wet them and instant clean then toss and go, hiking socks and hiking shoes for comfy feet, extra beach towel so I don't have to worry about getting charged for the ships if lost. Travelers checks. E mail addresses and phone numbers of friends to call and write, small back pack keeps my hands free in the airport when pulling my luggage. Sweat shirt or warm sweater for cold windy weather. Dollar store ponchos for unexpected rain showers. Laundry tablets easy to carry, fabric softner strips. Sunglasses with polarized lenses, binoculars, cell phone.

The power strip is because most cabins only have one outlet. I have never brought one and was okay, it just depends on how much stuff you have you would want to plug in. Some people have hair dryers, hair straighteners, ipods, alarm clocks and other stuff they want to be able to plug in at the same time. I use the alarm clock on my cell phone, so only needed to charge it every once in a while, and was able to plug in the hair dryer and curling iron as needed. It just depends on every individual and what they need/use on a daily basis.

In addition to all the other great stuff listed, I bring:

1) Moisture Munchers. These are small silicon kind of pellets that absorb moisture. I keep one in my fanny pack with my digital camera. It's especially good for high humid places (like Florida, the tropics, Caribbean, etc.) Cameras can be ruined when moisture builds up inside. I also stick one inside my underwater camera to prevent the lens from fogging.

2). Leather meeting folder (letter-sized). I put all my cruise photos in it. It's virtually unbendable and my photos are safe while packed away in my luggage. They do have things you can buy for this purpose but why spend the extra money when this works great.

Yes I am so excitied but
I'm also so stressed!

We are still working on our taxes which need to be done before we leave, I have clothes and luggage strewn all over the house, I keep finding myself at Target or Walmart every night for all the last minute things that I keep remembering, and I'm having nightmares each night that we can't board the ship because I forgot to bring our boarding passes, passports, etc. I'll be okay once I'm at the airport, but until then, I'm a mess.
