Default ship portraits question

I read on the Carnival website that the 8 X 10 pics that they take are $20 and the 5 X 7 pics are $6. My question is if they take a picture in an 8 X 10 and you want the 5 X 7, will they reprint it in the smaller size without having to purchase the larger one? We are wanting to get several of these without spending a fortune.

Thanks for any help you can give me. We sail March 20, so we are excited.

No

Unfortunately you have to purchase the one that is printed first, then you can order additional copies in different sizes.

Happy Sailing.

I was just looking at my receipts from Western C. on Victory Thanksgiving 2005. Here is a run down.

6X9 Embarkment ($6.04) w/ 6X9 Folio $3.95 (Total $9.99)
6X9 Gangway $7.99
5X7 picture with Pirate $6.99
8X10 Album $11.95
6X9 Costume $7.99
5X7 Special Event (they were dressed as a turkey & pilgrim) @ $6.99 ea.
The actual portraits on the ship were 8X10 @ $19.99 a pop. This was a bummer because I budgeted for 5X7.

It was fun dressing up and doing the old time portraits. We blew a total of $553.24 on photos(I use the term we loosely). We live in an area that does not have formal nights and do not get an opportunity to have portraits taken. This year we will probably get the embarkment & gangway pictures + a picture of the kids with the Dancers.

eznunzit:

Thank you. I was so glad to see that I am not the only one who spends way to much money on pictures.

I shared your experience with my husband and now I have been put on a limit. But tell me, how many times can you get the entire family dressed up nice at the same time. And to look so relaxed and having fun, it is worth every penny.

Enjoy and safe sailing.

Thanks for the replies. It will help me budget, especially with teens that are planning on having several pics taken. I will have to watch their sign and sail closely.

Last year on Conquest they were 20.00 and you had to purchase it in order to get smaller ones.

We ( and I too use the "we" lightly) spend A LOT on pictures. But they are so worth it. The pictures they take of you are good pictures and they'll take as many as you want.

I purchased an 8x10 of the embarkation picture of me and my ex, it was $20 but they gave me a free cover, the big black one with a picture of the ship on one side an your image on the other.

I thought that was a good deal, but I also thought it was a lot of money for one picture.. I'm crazy.. I already know this..

I too am guilty of spending quite a bit on pictures, especially if the kids cruise with us. Somehow I find it hard to pass up great pictures of my kids. I don't think $20 is too much for a formal 8 x 10 picture. In our area it would cost a lot more than that to have a formal picture done, not to mention trying to get everyone together all at once and dressed up.

You have a good point but since I'm a photographer, I know the actual cost to produce the image. The quality is good enough to display without second guessing. The Elation was actually printing on canvas for pictures that you wanted to get blown up and printed. I think the size was somewhere in the neighborhood of 20x30, the cost was around $80.

EMG:

I know what you're saying as my grandfather was a professional photgrapher for 70 years and my dad helped him out a lot so, while a lot has changed in the last ten years, I know it costs a lot less to produce them than for what they sell them for, and, if the cost were less I would most likely buy even more than I do! For me, with four kids, the idea of getting everyone together and dressed for a formal family portrait is a nightmare. I'd rather pay the $20 on the ship. For some reason my kids love to dress up on a cruise. At home they would be complaining the entire time, not to mention the logistics of trying to get everyone together at once.
