I wonder if there is any reason why Cruise Directors are almost exclusively male? I never actually realized that before. The only female CD if ever remember seeing was Julie McCoy on The Love Boat........hmmmm

Just got off the Ecstasy and Darcy is still on it. Sorry, but she has to be the worst that I have experienced.

A question on Cruise Directors - on almost all of my cruises the CD's have been male and British. Is there a particular reason for this ? The only one that was different was the long departed Big Red Boat which had an American female (of all things) as the CD !

Subtropic, Darcy on the Ecstasy is a white female from Alaska of all places. When we did the Ecstasy back in June of 06, there was a white female as the CD and she was from Miami. Most of the others have been white males but only one was British when the others were Americans.

Just my 2 cents.

Well, I have to say that if Darcey is that bad then I hope she is gone before our cruise in December. We will have a lot of first time cruisers with us and I don't want them to be disappointed. We were on the Conquest Dec, 2005 and Todd was the CD. He was awsome! So full of energy and personality.

I still love Wee Jimmy...I'm so glad he is now cruise director of the GLORY. I am looking forward to John Hearld also, I heard so many nice comments about him..hopefully he will be on the FREEDOM when I travel with the Cruismates Group...Mark Price is another really good cruise director and he is " easy on the eyes"...lol.

A cruise director would not make me decide to take that ship or not. The ship and the ports are what makes up my mind. I must admit, the CD on the Voctory--Jorge Solano is very funny, and his assistants (Josh, Ian, Dale, and TJ) are all quite funny..I liked Ian, not because he is a fellow Canadian, but because he is good looking and had an interesting careers he decided to take a break from--he is a licensed funeral director...yup, he deals with dead folks! Idon't know if he is still on the ship or not, but he was very good and his chosen career choice makes him ideal to have a classy conversation with...

Just returned from "Imigination", and yes, Darcy Knievel was the CD. I didn't think she was that bad! I think it was her last cruise aboard Imigination, as the rest of the staff gave her a big cake on stage one evening, and there were some suttle comments made about her leaving. In any case, I too, don't base my ship selection on who the CD is, and if he, or she is good, it's just a bonus.

I would guess that it stems from the "old days" when a lot of your cruisers were older ladies who were widows or older couples in a time when a man would not have been real comfortable "being directed" by a woman.

Don't think gender has anything to do with it. Had Tory on one of my cruises and she was alright, no too bad, not too good.

My favorite (5 cruises) up to now is by far Steve Kassel. Sailing B2B on the Holiday in Feb 08 and hope he is still there.

My least favorite is Stuart Dunn.

We were on the Conquest in May 2007 and Mark Price was the CD and not only was he funny but i think this guy talks to every passanger. My brother and i was sitting in the cigar bar, and Mark came over and sat down with us and stay for about 20 minutes. It is just my oppion but with 3,000 passangers on board and he takes time out to sit and talk with 2, it appears to me he really wants veryon to have the time of thier life. Having him as our CD would diffently influence my decission between two cruise. In fact we are taking the same ship May 2008 and I hope he will be our CD.

Hello all!
I was aboard the Inspiration in early June...my first Carnival Cruise!
Risa Barnes was our Director. She was nice and funny, but very, very loud. And she talked really fast. I enjoyed her nonetheless.
The people who were really amazing were the Assistant CD and a Funsquad dude. The assistant CD, Felipe (Couto I think?) was just amazing. Totally in to his job. :P The other one, a Funsquad host or something, was amaaaaazing. I spent all of the time in the Paris Lounge just listening to him and his awesome accent. His name was Michael, and he was South African. So cool.
Next time we plan a cruise, I am going to find out which cruise he's on and book that one!

It does seem that English men make good cruise directors, at least Lenny halliday on Legend in 06 and Chris Jefferson of the Valor last year impressed me.
