Default Gratuity question

Does anyone know if crew members know who does and doesn't tip on S&S account? On our previous cruises we gave our wait staff and cabin steward "extra" cash for what we thought was outstanding service, and while we probably won't ever see these people again, it bothers us to think that we might be considered tightwads.

nobody knows if you tip or not on your sail and sign card, we will be cruising for our 4th time this year and tip acording to service , we do not believe in forced tipping , if we get good service we tip well, but we definatly do not tip off of the ships forced betting policy, in the end we tip as much or more than we would if we just let them add the tips to our card but then the people who do give good service dont get tipped accordingly. we simply go to the pursers desk at the end of the cruise and have the forced tips removed,

YES, the staff are most definitely given a list of those who have left the auto tipping in place, and those who removed the tips from their sail and sign account.

If you tip extra, over and above the recommended amount, the staff are allowed to keep that for themselves. If you remove the tips from the sail and sign account they are expected to turn in any gratuity to the pool.

Kuki is correct. They do receive a list. If you remove the auto tips from your account, what you hand to them must be pooled.

Jacobs, they really aren't "forced tips". If this were the case, the tips would be included in the price of your cruise - there would be no way to adjust them once on board. The "suggested" tips are automatically put on your S&S account. That's why you are able to decrease, increase, or remove them.

However, it's a very fair amount....and leaving the auto tips in place is the only fair way to assure the tips are given specifically to the crew members who serves you so well.

I think that one day the tips WILL be included in the cruise price....because people do remove them from their S&S account, and most tip LESS or not all.

(You might want to scroll down on this page and look at the other "Gratuity" post....)
