Okay first time we are going anywhere really hot, we are going to Cozumel and Grand Cayman.... What sunscreen do you suggest? We are of European decent and olive tone skin... What number to buy...?
According to dermatologist here in the US (at least the one my mom works for) you should use at least 15 spf.

I'm also olive skin type. I usually go with 30 SPF. I knew I would be in the water quite a bit so I also went with a water proof. Just make sure you put something on or you will be very uncomfortable with a burn.
Life is too short to let the ship of your dreams sail without you.

many years ago when I worked in a pharmacy, I remember the sales reps telling our pharmacist that anything over a SPF 15 is a waste. Don't know if that is still the case or not. I buy a 30 for the kids and a 15 for me and dh. The key is to keep slathering it on. I think most people think that if they put it on one time then that will last them all day. You can usually tell who those people are at breakfast the next day! They are the ones who look like cooked lobsters and can't walk very well!
My wife and I are HUGE fans of "Ocean Potion". We get it at Wal-Mart. It's great. We use the spf 30 formula. It water and sweat resistant, isn't very greasy, smells great (kind of citrus-like), and protects against all UV rays. Plus, it's reasonably priced for sunscreen. It's also anti-aging. It has vitamins in it or something. I know I sound like a sales guy for this stuff, but trust me. Go to Wal-Mart and just read the bottle and give the stuff a smell. I'll guarantee you'll be buying some. (The spf 30 comes in a light blue bottle with a bright orange cap)
As a skin cancer patient, I was told to use at least SPF30, so that's what I use. I'm a great fan of "BullFrog QuikJel",SPF36. It doesn't have any fragrance at all, goes on very easily, dries instantly, and really lasts! I usually can find it at WalMart, and it's worth every penny of the $7 per bottle or whatever it sells for. I won't be without it!
While I always start out with at least a 15, about a month before the cruise I go to the tanning spa for 20 minutes once a week, then twice the week before I go. Since I do that, I don't get that burn I used to always get, just be careful, start out with 5 or 10 minutes and see how you do with that, and only once a week.
