i am going on my first cruise september 2007 I'm sailing on the Carnival Legend.I am a little nervous because this is hurricane season.Afraid I will have a bad experience because of it.I'm leaving out of new york city.I just want to hear about other people's experience on this cruise and if they went in the time frame I'm looking at,September.
Over half of my cruises have been in September. Yes, it's hurricane season, but you have to realize that half of the people who cruise do so during the season, as it's a full six months long - the official hurricane season is June 1 - November 30, and that never changes.
The captain will take the ship out of harm's way. The only thing that may disappoint you would be if the itinerary has to be changed, and that is often the case during hurricane season.
Hoping you'll have beautiful weather for your cruise. I've never expeienced any bad weather at all - at the most a day of rain.

yes, the thick of hurricane season is from mid Aug to early October, but ship captains do a pretty good job of sailing around them and you are safer on a ship than on land if one does hit. Just relax, you have a year and a half to worry; don't stress. NMNita
I was in the Gulf of Mexico on a cruise when Hurricane Katrine hit last year. The captain did a great job in keeping out of harms way. While the ride got a bit bumpy for about 6 hours, it really wasn't all that bad. We did have to return to port in ft. Lauderdale instead of Tampa and they bussed everyone back to Tampa. I just changed my flight to go out of ft. Lauderdale instead (as did quite a few others.).

A lot of people sail during hurricane season for the cheap prices. The last few years we have had more than our share of hurricanes. I think we are just in that part of the cycle.
I agree with the above post. The captain does not want to sail into a hurricane if possible.
I know someone whose return was delayed two days because of a hurricane. She thought "Ok, two more days of vacation."
