That's what formal nights are about. This is my first cruise and I am going to both formal nights. For one I will wear my new coral colored floor length gown and the other I will wear a classic "little black dress". I'm guessing some will be more "dressed" than others, but I'm sure you will look beautiful, not silly, in your sparkly black dress.
You definitely will not be out of place. Dress up and enjoy yourself. I'm sure its lovely and you'll be the bell of the ball.

On all of my carnival cruises we've dressed formally. You won't be the only one! Wear that dress!!

I agree with the above posters. Your dress sounds perfect! On formal night, you'll see everything from full-length sequined gowns to cocktail dresses to 'church dresses'. Wear your beautiful new dress and enjoy every minute!

All fantastic voyages!
I just got back on Sunday and EVERYONE (and I mean everyone) dressed up for the 2 formal nights. It was beautiful seeing everyone look so nice! Even the young children were dressed up.
As for the rest of the nights, just look nice - casual clothes. No shorts or tank tops. Yes, nice looking jeans are okay.

On both of my cruise, 98% of people in the dining room were dressed up on formal night. There were lots of women in nice cocktail style dresses and lots in formal, full length dresses. I also saw quite a few with sparkles.

No, jeans are not okay in the main dining room. Too many people are treating the dining room like it's the Lido buffet. The dining room is meant to be a nice, somewhat "sophisticated" experience. Those who can't stand to don a pair of slacks and a nice shirt for an hour should stick to the buffet.
8) Like Nicnatmom said, WEAR THAT DRESS
It sounds just perfect. You wil find that the majority of passengers
dress for formal night. Be sure to have your formal portrait taken.
Have a great cruise.
Happy Sailing............
You will not be the only one dressing formal on formal nights. In fact, if you dress casual, you may feel out of place. Formal dining is wonderful. You will love the atmosphere and elegance. I always wore black sparling dresses too. Enjoy!
