Default Docking in Cozumel

My husband and I have heard of a number of people not being able to get into port due to damaged docks, tendered when possible. Does anyone know if this has been repaired yet? We will be there at the end of May. 8)

Thanks.

I did hear that one of the two piers is open, so its still possible that you'll have to tender depending on how many ships are in port that day.

Donna is right. One of the docks have been repaired, but it will take some time to get all up and running. It was not a problem for us in Dec to tender. You will be surprised at how easy it is to get to the shore.

Have a great cruise.

I am going in June. And I was told the Internaional Pier is up and running for the smaller ships. Our ship is one of Carnival's smaller ships so we will be docking at International Pier.

Friends of mine were on the Holiday two weeks ago, and had to tender in. Since the Holiday is Carnival's smallest ship, seems that IF they could have docked at Int'l Pier, they would have....???

The two main piers (Puerta Maya that Carnival owns) and Punta Lagosta (nearest downtown San Miguel) won't be operational for a long, long time. Carnival estimates late 2007 or even early 2008 before Puera Maya will be completed.)

Sure can. When ships cannot dock at a port, they tender passengers in.

When tendering, you get on a smallish boat with a lot of people, and that boat takes you to the island/land. It is much more time consuming than when docking... and there is usually a wait both going and coming.

My friends said they tried to get back to the ship about two hours before sailing, and had to wait about 45 minutes in a long line to get on a returning tender. Maybe your wait won't be as long. Good luck.

Some of the time, the "tenders" used are the ship's lifeboats, so they can only fit so many people. They do run all the time, back and forth, just don't wait until the last hour to get back.

I just got back and the pier looks as though it was hit by a bomb. It's hard to believe that a hurricane could do so much damage to a concrete structure.

Our tenders held 200 people. If you are planning on doing something yourself (not a ship sponsored excursion) make sure you arrive early to get off the ship (they should make an announcement). They handed out stickers for those who wanted to leave. People in the early group numbers got off within an hour. Those in high number groups had to wait quite a while.

The International Pier is partially repaired but it can only accommodate one cruise ship at at time. It IS NOT restricted to only small ships since we docked there on the Miracle last Wednesday (May 3, 2006). Right now Miracle is docking or tendering on alternate weeks. The cruise that sailed last Sunday (May 7) will have to tender while those on the Miracle cruise next Sunday (May 14) will get to dock.

The primary piers are probably still many months away from being used.

I just got back from Cozumel & we docked at the International Pier, we did not have to water taxi in. It was a very short walk from the pier to the International Cruise Terminal & lots of shopping.

I was in Cozumel on the Holiday last week and we docked. The Sensation followed us in and they had to tender. They were using ferries to tender passengers so it won't take long because they are big and fast.
