Default 7-night trips departing from New Orleans

Does anyone know when or if Carnival intends to resume 7-night cruises departing from New Orleans?

Default Cruises from NOLA

Carnival will not be planning any 7-night cruises in the near future, Conquest will remain in Galveston. NCL will start their cruises in Oct, and RCCL/PCL will start December.

On the carnival site, they have ships leaving out of N.O. in October of 2006. Did they change this? I haven't checked in a few days.

Yes, the Carnival website has cruises out of New Orleans, but no 7-night trips. Their schedule is posted through 2008. I'm hoping there will be some schedule changes.

I think they will not post any updated information until they announce where the Carnival Freedom will be based out of...I would expect the city of New Orleans would like it based here as a way to jump start the local economy and help finish the new cruise terminal currently under construction...Most folks think the Freedom will go to Galveston..I'm betting Galveston keeps the Conquest and we get the Freedom

Makes great political sense by Carnival

I would love to see that happen New Orleans does need a couple of cruise ships home ported there to help get the economy jump started.

For us, It is so much cheaper to cruise out of New Orleans. Because theres no airfare, and no added motel expense. Just a quick 3 hour drive, and we're there. Cross your fingers on this one

Happy Cruising;

I thought the itinerary for Freedom was already set?!? Perhaps, I'm mistaken, but I thought it would be based in Miami. If this is not the case, I'm hoping for great news for New Orleans. I lived there for many years until my job transferred to Baton Rouge. I do go back to visit family and friends as well as business trips. The downtown area seems back on track and the tourists are slowly coming back. This is wonderful news for the Big Easy! My heart breaks when I travel through the miles and miles of devastated residential areas. I don't know the statistics, but I'm willing to bet that Katrina is responsible for the highest number of demolished businesses and homes in hurricane history. I just don't know if it will ever be the same. My husband works in the construction industry and they are working in New Orleans. Right now they are at the Harrah's casino site and the NEW CRUISE TERMINAL SITE. I asked him how much longer before the terminal would be open. He thinks it could be finished much later this year, if the work is released, no more hurricanes hit the area, no other delays and IF supplies and workers can be maintained. Otherwise, it would be well into 2007.

Bumping this up to see if anyone has any updated information on the Carnival schedule out of New Orleans. I am REALLY dreading the possibility of driving to Galveston from Baton Rouge .

At least for awhile, its looking like the Freedom is headed to the Med. doing 12-day cruises.

Mstill, we drove to Galveston this past April from Picayune, MS for a Conquest cruise, and it really wasn't a bad drive. It was our first trip to Galveston and we really like the town. The check-in was easy, parking was a snap, and we experienced no problems. You're a lot closer in BR, so don't sweat the trip over there too much.

This was our fourth cruise on the Conquest and the best. We've sailed out of Gulfport, MS once, and NO twice, with NO being the worst of the lot.

Go ahead and book that cruise. You'll have a blast.

I agree -- I live 2 hours from N.O (originally from N.O.) and loved going out of Galveston better as it is much less hassle. Extremely organized and you hit blue water MUCH faster than going down the Mississippi. It isn't a bad drive at all - just time consuming when you want to get HOME NOW.........or THERE NOW...lol!

mstill, I live in Alexandria and even though the drive to Galveston is about 45 minutes longer I prefer it to New Orleans (even though I'm from N.O.) It's a much better managed port and as someone said earlier, you're 100 yards from the Gulf! We often see dolphins WHILE we're waiting to board.

At least it beats flying anywhere.

I agree with everyone who said sailing out of Galveston is preferable to NO. The town is great and embarkation was very quick and organized.

About the Freedom... I was involved with a group who were set to get in on the maiden voyage because we had heard that the Freedom was going to be based out of Houston, there were over 120 of us in the group, then the leader got the word that the Freedom would be making the Med cruise. We were so heart broken...

Hey thanks everyone! I think we are going to drive to Galveston! I do remember that LONG trek down the Mississippi River on our last cruise. Wish me luck! I have a meeting scheduled on the 18th with the Class of 2007 and their parents. We should have everything firmed up and deposits collected. After that, we will be ready to go.

Questions:

Parking in Galveston....Is it adequate?

Ferry or bridge?

What time do they start boarding?

How long did you have to wait in line?
