Default how much of a hold on the debit card?

We cruise in 13 days 8) on the Destiny, I had planned to use my debit card, but I read somewhere that the boat puts a hold on some funds. Does any one know how much funds they "hold" and for how long? I would hate to want to buy something in port and not be able to. Thanks for your help.

Default Accounts

The cruise companies puts your tips on your sail-n-sign card to be debited or credited from your account (depending on the type of payment you choose). That is the only thing that I have had placed on my card, except if I had a purchase after closing my account on the return home. My dd put a drink on the ss card after I closed the account on the last cruise. The drink showed up on my charge card the next month. The only items that I have been charged for were my tips and my expenditures.

Have a good cruise!

When I had called Carnival on this, they told me it is a $200 hold per person. I never noticed a hold, and had no problems with it. The money was in my account when I got home. Hope this helps.

Default Carnival debits

I just spoke with a Carnival cruise customer service person yesterday and she said that they do NOT put a hold on the entire card, they debit the account in increments of $50 depending on the length of the cruise and your daily charges. So for a four night cruise, they should only charge $50 or whatever you purchase that day and so on and so forth. I'm figuring they'll put a hold of $200 on my card since I'm a four night cruiser.... kind of like when you rent a car....

They will put a min. of $200 hold on your card, but I recommend you take two seperate cards with you, one for them to hold for your sail and sign and one for spending. Make sure your bank gives you two seperate cards numbers.
