I went on the Legend last year. They had R rated and G rated comedy shows. To my surprise both were excellent. I thought the G rated guy had an even harder job cause he had to keep things clean but still be funny and he was great I wish I remembered his name. I like the raunchy stuff too, Im a huge Richard Pryor fan and Chris Rock. There were no improv shows just stand up. Carnival does a great job with entertainment, dancers, musicans and variety acts. Try to see as many as you can after all it's part of your cruise.
Carnival Mardi Gras 1987 (Bahamas)
Carnival Legend 2005 (Exotic Western Caribbean)
Costa Mediterrenia 2005 (Eastern Caribbean)
Carnival Pride October 2006 (Mexican Rivera)
Carnival Legend 2007 (Western Caribbean)
Carnival Glory 2009 Western Caribbean
Carnival Liberty 2011 Eastern Caribbean
Norwegian Spirit 2011 Western Caribbean
Carnival Miracle 2012 Southern Caribbean
Carnival Breeze 2013 Exotic Eastern Caribbean
Carnival Valor 2014 Southern Caribbean
The evening shows will be family oriented. The X rated will be at midnight and will be 18 and over and you are warned that if you are easily offended to avoid it.
On our recent 13 cruises, it has really been hit and miss. We usually don't attend the X rated, because constantly dropping some "*" bombs just isn't my kind of comedy. However, there was one guy (and I hate it that I can't remember his name) who was extremely funny during the regular session and promised that if we came to his midnight show, there would be no foul lanuage.
We took the chance and we are really glad we did. It was the best intelligent X rated shows I have ever been in. Not one "cuss" word. His use of inuendo and situation comedy was excellent.
So if you ever get the chance to see this guy and he promises intelligent midnight comedy, be sure to attend.
COMPLETES THE FLEET
If it is Carnival and it floats....we have sailed it!
Hubby ... DIAMOND (every ship except the Carnivale)
Me ... DIAMOND (every ship starting with the Tropicale)
20 year old son ... DIAMOND (every ship starting with the Tropicale...he is the only DOUBLE Milestone under the age of 21)
24 year old son ... DIAMOND
We just returned from a trip on carnival valor 4/9 and saw the 2 midnight standup shows and thought they were both very funny. There is some language and subject matter that might not be for everyone. I think if you know that going in you will either enjoy yourself or if it's not for you I would suggest just passing on those shows. There's plenty of other things to do. I'm not sure why some people chose to attend and then feel offended. They warn you before the show starts that if you are easily offended that maybe you should leave.
My husband and I cruise often with Carnival and almost always find comedy shows to enjoy. Some of the midnight shows can be abit risque, so if you have children, I wouldn't recommend taking them at midnight. Also Carnival has begun having alot more than before.
Usually the comedians are pretty good. It's easier to move one person around than a group so the quality of entertainer (comedian) is usually good.
Marc Rubben who has been on the Conquest forever it seems is very good. His late show is pretty clean as well.
I like Ralph Achilles, but DW doesn't as much. Mark Hopkins was funny.

We almost always enjoy the comics, and the rare exception is a guy named Kenny Miller. Sorry,,,but he just plain sucks. He insists on insulting the audience, and making lewd and crude remarks directed at various people in the audience. Not funny at all. He's been on "Inspiration" for quite a long time, and I think it's time to get rid of him from Carnival altogether.
Others we've seen were GREAT!
2008-Valor and Glory
2009-Spirit and Splendor
2010-Freedom of the Seas and Mariner of the Seas
2012-Allure of the Seas and Navigator of the Seas
Tried to attend the R rated comedy show on the Glory in June. For some reason they had the show in a bar which was packed like a sardine can well before it even began. So many folks in fact, the crowd was spilling out the door. Everyone inside looked miserable pushed up against each other. So I walked away. Hit the casino on the way out and hit on the slot machine. Thought that was pretty funny!
Just off the Sensation and saw the Happy (can't remember last name - may be Goodman?) anyway we had seen him before and he is really funny.
Been there - done that:
2005 Holiday, Sensation, Conquest,
2006 Conquest, Celebration, Holiday,
2007 Freedom Grand Med, Holiday
2008 Fantasy & Sensation,
2009 Fantasy, Holiday & Dream Grand Med
2010 Fantasy and B2B Elation
2011 Monarch of the Seas
2012 Booked - Breeze from Barcelona 12 days
Yep, Kenny Miller was still aboard "Inspiration" the last week of August '08. You might get lucky and miss him, but if not, there are other comics aboard, and they are GREAT. Who knows,,,,you might like Miller, but I've seen him at least 3 times, (Yep, I'm a slow learner I guess) and he is the same each time. Just picks a couple of people in the audience, and throws insults at them. Other than him, Inspiration is super.
