We are cruising from San Juan next January. I'm booking our hotel for a few extra days before or after the cruise so that we can do some sightseeing. We're sailing on the Destiny from teminal # 4 and I'm not sure what areas near San Juan I should consider staying in. I want to be close to the cruise port and the airport as we won't be renting a car. Can anyone tell me if the Dorado area is very far from either of those things and also how far from Old San Juan?
Any info will be much appreciated.
Well I live in Puerto Rico, and yes Dorado is far (it depends on your definition of far) around 30-45 minutes away from Old San Juan, depending on traffic. If you have any questions about PR dont hesitate to ask, I was born and have lived my 22 years in this beautifull island.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn in the Coronado section. It really is lovely. I think I would have really liked to stay in the Old San Juan section. There was so much to do there and its right at the pier. You'll have a great trip and the people were so friendly everywhere we went.
Life is too short to let the ship of your dreams sail without you.

We have stayed in San Juan twice pre-cruise to be able to enjoy sight seeing we would otherwise not get to.
First cruise we stayed at Marriott Courtyard (Stellaris) two days- wonderful pool, an actual beach if you wish, and we had an amazing breakfast buffet that could be eaten outside and saw the Destiny arriving that morning from the prior cruise. I'd easily recommend it. Rented a car and enjoyed el Yunque, local shopping and approx. 15 min from pier and downtown area.
Second cruise--thought we'd stay closer to El Yunque rainforest and since we were going to be there a few days, and some in our party we booked the Embassy at Dorado Beach--huge mistake. It is remote--45 min away, traffic at the wrong time of day is a standstill, beach was "man made, rocky" and more of a cove. Pool nice, rooms inside main tower up to standard, outside "vacation rooms more condo like" mechanical problems, not as cool a/c etc. Also parking is total mess. You are told to double park and leave keys with attendant. Thus chances of being parked in are 100%. Never again that hotel.
Post cruise: Sheraton old San Juan (Old Wyhndam) -great location, pool on roof, very convenient walk across the street for Destiny.
