Does anyone know the average cost to make a cruise ship?

That is pretty hard to calculate as the cruise lines are composed of older, samaller as well as new mega-ships.

To give you an idea:

- The Freedom of the Seas cost $800MM
- The Island Princess cost $500MM
- The Grand Princess cost $450MM
- Royal Caribbean Ordered a $1.24B Cruise Ship
- The Costa Atlantica is $400MM
- The Vision of the Seas cost $277MM
- The Pride of Hawaii cost $500MM
- The QM2 cost $1.3B

You get the picture .....

Are you building one? What are going to be your rates? can I have a balcony room? Where will it sail to? How bout no formal nights instead have lingerie night! Serve no alcohol just charge $25 and say bring what you can carry! Can you hire as my personal room steward Jennifer Aniston or Jessica Simpson? Wait I might need a seperate cabin for my wife and kids! so 2 cabins ok! In your casino... post rules saying any advice givin at the BJ table you get hurled off the boat! Get rid of the slot machines. I can't hear over them when I'm playing poker! Implement cliff diving as entertainment on the boat just make a part of the side of the boat look like a cliff instead of putting a rock climbing wall in! How about deep sea fishing. I mean were in the middle of the ocean why not. I demand, to keep things equal, that if you have a hairy chest contest for the guys on your boat, you should have a biggest (fill in the blank) contest for the women! this keeps the lawyers off your back. Can I be cruise director?? Ok Whose coming with us on this boat!!

I think another question along that line, is how many years does it take to pay for one and how much does a ship depreciate and what is the resale value and how much per square foot ?

Lingerie night ? I like those !!! actually on the smooth jazz cruises they have pajama night and alot of women wear lingerie which makes for a very interesting dinner conversation and picture taking

If I was CD they would have to be 3 mo cruises cause no one would want to leave! My boat would only be open to cruisemate people and you can bring Bob Dickenson whoever he is!

An interesting question and with the number of newbuilds and with a 220,000 grt ton Genesis ship in the works for Royal Caribbean and the 200,00 Pinnacle Project in the works for Carnival the costs just keep going up.

The $1.2 Billion dollar cruise ship may become the norm.

Then again with the stock issues that both companies are having they may not be going through with them.

Hey, Fern, we flew kites on the Valor in January! We brought our own nylon kites - one macaw and one flamingo - and flew them on the afternoon we were in Belize from the back of the ship on the Panorama deck. It was FUN!

In fact, here's a picture of the flamingo (Pink Floyd, of course!)

Hmmm kite flying let's go one better! No tendering in at ports... you parasail off the ship to your desired excursion. No more bingo night either! from now on everyone plays twister we'll move the game to the top of the ship where the topless sunbathing area is and make the entire boat clothing optional except of course formal night where lingerie is required. any other suggestions?
