Default Do you take your real diamond ring or a fake one?

One night on my last cruise, a large group of us starting talking and I was surprised to find out that I was one of the few who was wearing their real diamond ring.

Do you take your real diamond ring or bring a fake one?

Hi RobRen,

No way! All the "good stuff" goes in the safe deposit box at the bank!

Besides the $$, my ring belonged to my dear late Mother. I'd never take a chance on losing it on vacation!

I wear a CZ that looks so real that my Jeweler had to use his loupe to see if it was a diamond .

I take mine. Why buy it if only the safety deposit box gets to see it? Just be very careful, and don't take it off! The lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) takes her Summer diamonds. Summer diamonds,,,,Summer not! You guess which are which.....

I usually take a minimum amount of jewelry. I take what I need for formal night. I leave the diamonds at home. I do take some silver jewelry and some earrings made of copper that I buy at a mall in Austin, Texas. I never wear expensive jewelry when I get off the ship.

Were military, and don't have expensive stuff. One of these days, I hope to have expensive.

Luanne, I bought most of my expensive jewelry years ago and rarely wear any of it now. I quess my tastes have changed, because I like totally different kinds of jewelry now.

I was married 30 years before I got my ring and I love to look at it and ware it. You guys are making me think people are out to get my jewery, is it really that bad??? Question, Are the watches and stuff on the ships real or fake??? Thanks

Come on guys. I said the lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) and I take the real stuff, but you also know us well enough by now to know that we rarely, if ever, leave the ship. When we do leave the ship, we know, in which ports we need to exercise extreme caution, and in which ones we can act more the way we would at home. (you know the ones I'm referring to!)

Potter,

Don't worry. You can wear your good jewely all over the ship without worrying. But if I were you, I would leave it in the safe when you get off the ship. They warn you to be careful when you get off at some of the ports. (Jamaica and Belize are two that we have been warned about.)

You will have a wonderful time on your cruise. Don't worry about the small stuff.

The wife leaves all jewerly in the safe when going ashore. On the ship she can wear it all she wants. She also does not bring a purse. I have her cruise card and driver's licence in my wallet (carried in my front pocket or an inner jacket zipped pocket.)

I never wear anything in Mexico that doesn't match what they wear, and that is my silver. I don't want to look like a rich tourist, which i am not , but they may assume that I am and in passing a CZ may also set you up as a target because like you say, they look real. On the ship is a different story and I would feel comfortable wearing the real thing if I actually had any. My thinking is, cruise or jewelery ? Well, you can guess what my choice whould be , Cozzette, poor of jewelery. rich of experiences

I wear my real stuff on the ship, but leave it in the safe when we go into port. No reason to flash it, lose it while scuba diving or enjoying the beach. It's all good!

I wear very little jewelry in ports and onboard or none at all but a watch. Safer that way.

I wear diamonique from QVC and I honestly thank God that I do. On my last cruise (last August) I lost three diamonique rings! This was after the cruise and at the hotel room in NOLA. I always take all of my jewerly off before going to bed. So needless to say, I will "never" wear my real diamonds on a vacation.

I really don't wear good rings at home while working, etc., so when cruising I just wear it for the week, and never take if off.

Default what to take

having traveled all over the US, as well as Europe and the middle east - we don't take anything that we can't replace. We have heard of all sorts of interesting ways to lose important stuff

Thank You everyone!!! I know now when and when not to wear my good earings. My ring I will not take off unless I have to. I was working last week at my desk and looked down at my ring and my diamond fell out, OMG I found it 2 hrs later under my desk. I was insured so no problem, just wanted that diamond. But things are just things and everything can be replaced right!!! I would never take a family heiloom as that no matter what it would be would suck to have it lost!!! Peace, Love and Thanks again

Hi Potter. Sure glad you found your diamond. Our son-in-law is a jeweler, who also makes custom pieces, and he checks our rings and jewelery three or four times a year. You'd be amazed at how often he finds the stones a bit loose. Not bad enough to fall out, but loose enough to be scarey! If you have nice "stuff", please have a trusted jeweler check it occasionally to be sure the stones are safe. Just takes a minute, and it might save a lot of grief!
