DottieL..... I did a Western Carribbean cruise w/ R.C. ( Cozumel and Costa Maya) the 1st week of March and the weather was nice. It will be warm and pleasant. The ocean water was warm and refreshing. I dont have kids so I cant help you there. If you are looking for a beach day while in port, I would suggest in Cozumel that you go to Paradise Beach. Free entrance and very clean beach w/ all the amenities. Great for kids w/ plenty to do. I will be on The Conquest the 1st week of March '07. Have FUN!
IMO, I'd do a ship's tour in Montego Bay. Lots of people may disagree with me, but with children... There can be some "unsavory" characters in Jamaica. I can suggest that you don't do the Dunn's Rivers Falls if it's offered. It's a very long drive and better done when you port in Ocho Rios.
Grand Cayman-either of these should be fun. We've done the Stingray, Hell, Turtle Farm tour and enjoyed it. The Stingray part was interesting and the children would probably enjoy it.
Hell isn't much to see. In some pictures it looks huge, but it's actually very small. You can send postcards from "Hell" ! (Of course you'll be home before they show up!)
The Turtle Farm is interesting, but some people object because it's a "farm". IMO, I don't know why, as "farms" are where we get our meat, but it seems to bother some people. They do preservation work as well.
We wouldn't do this tour again, just a "been there, done that" thing.
Sorry, I don't have any suggestions for Cozumel. We did a "Highlights" tour once and it wasn't very interesting (too long a bus ride and probably boring for your children). Last time we just shopped on our own and went back to the ship. I'm sure someone else can give you some ideas here!
If you haven't already, be sure to check the "Caribbean and Panama section here:
Not sure if this would be your family's "cup of tea" but due to a referral by a friend - my family is probably going to do the subocean view excursion in Jamaica then go to Margaritaville. If you dine and/or drink at Margaritaville in Montego Bay you have unlimited use of their "watertoys". They have a big water trampoline and a water slide. The adults in my party will probably just hang out in the restaurant, have a few drinks, munch, and let the teenagers play. Then we'll head back to the ship to lounge and get ready for dinner.
We're taking the "less expensive and less rushed" approach in Jamaica since we are planning longer and more expensive excursions in Grand Cayman and Cozumel (Island Tour and Stingray City & Shotover Boat to Cancun, respectively).
This'll just give you another option - I hope y'all have an awesome cruise!!
Life's a Beach ... enjoy it on a Cruise!
