Default Passport processing time?

How long does it take to receive your passport once you register at the Post Office?

I'm reading directly from a card from the post office regarding passports------ " You'll recieve your passport within six weeks from the time Passport Agencies recieve your complete application. If you need your passport sooner, you can request expedited processing with Express Mail service for as additional fee. "

The additional fee for expedited service for renewal of a passport is
$ 60.00 so I would think it would be the same with the original
passport application.

My Wife and I applied for ours 6 weeks ago today and we still haven't gotten them back.
The lady at the Post Office had told us that they were told that week, to begin telling people to expect an 8 week wait, as the applications had already begun picking up. (at that Post Office, they had done twice as many aaplications that month already than they had in any single month before then, EVER.)
My In-Laws had gotten theirs at the exact same Post office 3 months earlier for a trip to Germany and had theirs back in the mail in a little over 2 weeks.
So apparently things have begun to slow down a bit.

Bill

The wife and I did our passport application at the Post Office today, and the nice lady told us it would be eight weeks.

Is it true you have to put your hair behind your ears for the passport photo?

My husband was told at post office where he applied that he would have his passport in 6 weeks. My son and I applied 3 days later at county courthouse and were told the same thing. It had taken my husband 3-1/2 weeks to get his b/c from another state, so luckily I had him pick up another copy (just in case!) when we visited up there last month. According to the status listing, he should have had his around the 16th of this month. My son and I should have had ours around the 19th. I called and my husband's was mailed the 19th and they're still working on mine and my son's. It's a good thing my son and I were both born in the next county, since he and DH made a quick trip to pick up more birth certificates.

We're leaving Sunday, on the Conquest! Can't wait!

I work at the New Orleans Passport Office. The biggest DELAY in processing the application is that we can NOT read the applicants hand writing OR the Birth Cirtificate is NOT and original or does not have the seal on it. Photocopies are not acceptable. If you renewing a passport then just send in the old one, nothing else is required except two recent photos with a plain white background and NO hats or headgear except for religious reasons and you had better explain that. Children, under 14, must have BOTH parents sign the applications AT THE ACCEPTING office OR provide a notorized statement of approval. If you follow the rules you should be able to get the passports back in 6 weeks. It is best if you TYPE the application and make sure all the information is correct. We are there to serve you.
