Default Problem getting to ship during shuttle launch?

We are set to sail on the Fantasy August 28 out of Port Canaveral. NASA just announced today they are targeting an August 27 or 28 launch date for the next shuttle . If they decide to launch on the 28th will that affect us being able to get to the ship? I'm not worried about traffic so much, but do they close down the port area during the launch window?

My family and I got off the Glory on July 1st a day the shuttle was supposed to launch.

The port was open, no problem there, but the traffic was HORRIBLE. Very backed up, my husband and I wondered if the ships would get to leave on time with all the people waiting to get into the port.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, yes that does help. We always try to get to the port by 11:00am anyway. So, now that I know we can get to the ship, I kinda hope they do launch on the 28th that would be an incredible sight to see the shuttle go up from the deck of the Fantasy.

We are leaving on the same boat on Aug 28th. We do not land until 11:30 and then we will be taking the shuttle to the port. Do you see this being a problem? I'm getting a little nervous not.

And if this is not a problem, can you see the shuttle launch from the ship? That would be cool.

I don't think your flight time will be a problem.

We did not get to actually see the shuttle launch because they called it off, but Lido deck would be a great place to see it launch. Just bring your binoculars (sorry spelling) with you.

Aug06Bride, We have sailed out of port Canaveral twice before but never during a shuttle launch (that was the reason for the question). You can see several of the older launch towers from the deck of the ship while it is in port so I think if the shuttle goes up while we are in or close to port you will not only see it, you will probably hear and feel it!

By the way we're neighbors, we are in Columbus!
