Default How Do I Know Which Door Is Mine?

You are finally on the ship. You have probably eaten on the Lido, and now it is time to go to your room. You get to your floor, and before you walk down the hall, you realize that all the doors look the same. It doesn't matter if you have an inside, or a window or a balcony, They simply all look just a like from the hallway.

How do you remember which room is yours?

Luanne

Is this a trick question? Our cabin was right next to the midship elevator, but it also helped that Carnival put little numbers on the cabins to help you find them.

Not a trick at all. Some people have trouble remembering their room numbers. Since your room number isn't on your Sail and Sign card, then you either have to remember your number, or you have to do something to the door, to make it yours.

yea Luanne has a point, especially if you are returning late one night after having a few in the bar...After all these years I still am confused the first day or two whether to turn left or right when getting off the elevator..at least on the old Norway it was real easy, you just look at the carpet color to know which is your deck and then follow the arrow

I figured it out by measuring the distance from our cabin to my table in the dining room

either that, or wait until my grandson gets old enough to cruise and find the cabin for grandpa..kids figure out the entire ship in about an hour after they board..parents take all week

there is nothing more embarrassing then putting your key card in the wrong door at 0400 am and really making the folks inside the cabin nervous (VBG)

Okay, if you are an even # you will be on one side of the ship and odds
are on the other. Just remember... larger # on cabin door = back of
ship and smaller # on cabin door = front of ship.
Happy Sailing...............

Well if it's Christmas I get the large wrapping paper and wrap my door up Worked so well on the Legend. Last cruise I was on Princess and I was aft so no worries on finding it, just walked til I hit the back of the ship and the doors there were a bit different from the rest.

OK, never really thought about it. I guess years of business travel make me used to remembering room numbers. Hotels don't put your room number on the key/card either.

I have a full length door cover that says, "THE PARTY'S IN HERE".

And when I'm in port, I can look up and find my balcony room by the big flag with the sunshine face on it wearing glasses. I put it on the balcony, held on by magnets when we arrive in the different ports. That way, I can say, "There's my cabin"!

I just remember the general area and when I put my key in a slot and the little led turns green, that's my room.

Um, I generally look at the room number which is posted on the door. Am I missing something here? Is this some sort of dream sequence your envisioning or did you really expect to find your room without a room number?

I must be smarter than the average bear but I know the deck and cabin number i'm staying in. Hotels, motels, ships, office bldg. suites, Dr. offices, etc. are all numbered so people know where they are supposed to go.
If someone has to decorate a door in order to find the right cabin, what would they do if someone took down the decorations or moved them to another deck / cabin ?

Be careful guys... Some people do decorate their cabin doors, for fun, or for finding their own room. I was trying to get those who had decorated before, to tell us their ideas. It was a fun question, about some fun things to do. Wasn't a test to see who is smart enough to find their room.

Those decorations that are put there to help find the correct door, HAVE BEEN MOVED from time to time, and the people couldn't get their key to work. They went to the purser, who made them a new key, and of course it still didn't work. The purser then came down to the cabin with the people, and pointed out that they were trying to open the wrong door. NO, it wasn't me, but it was brought up by the Cruise Director on one ship we sailed. Point is, don't totally depend on door decorations to find your cabin. You still have to remember that number on the door.

We try to remember the room number, but we also put a few magnets on the door (yes, I know they can be moved, but they haven't been so far).

One is a picture of our cat >^..^< ! Another is a logo of Cruisemates which I downloaded here:

http://cruisemates.com/search/index.cfm

We also use some generic cruise magnets.

That's so funny you asked this question because I was feeling really stupid one night when I went back to my room without my husband or son. I put the card in the door and it didn't work! The next door I tried didn't work either. Pretty soon I was wandering the halls trying to remember. I must have walked the ship three times before I gave up and used my two-way to page my son.

I wish I could blame it on alcohol but I don't drink so I'm going to blame it on being very, very tired. Yes, that works, I was very tired!

WOW !!!!! just two weeks ago We went to foxwoods resort casino for the night, we had a corner room, we got off the elevator on the wrong floor, when the elevater opened we walked off went to out room or so we thought, the door opened with our key, and we thought we got rob, the safe was empty, our stuff was gone ect ect security came I was hysterical we had a rent a car and the keys were gone also, it was a nightmare, but after several phone calls security realized we were in the wong room. why that key worked I will never know, but it was terrible, so yes I will admit I am in la la land and have a hard time on a ship finding my way and I do not drink , I might try it next cruise maybe it will help

HELLO PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!! This was meant to be a FUN question, not a serious one.....DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have always been able to find my door with or without the decorations. I just find it fun to put up silly decorations. Most of the people who pass it really have expressed how they enjoy seeing it.
So lighten up and play along..........we're supposed to be having fun here...right?

Default Sun With glasses

I actually can remeber my room number, but I still decorate my door. For this cruise, 18 days away, on the Legend I have a large yellow sun that "poofs" out. He's wearing dark shades.

My door decorations make me smile, and make a lot of people passing the cabin smile too!

I will admit that once my dear husband (dh) used the sun to lead him in the right direction after several cocktails. :0)

DH stands for dear husband or maybe d**n husband ! Other abbreviations you may run into are:

DW-dear wife
DD-dear daughter
DS-dear son
etc.

You may also see B2B for back-to-back cruises, BTW for by the way, IMO for in my opinion and others. If you don't understand an abbreviation, just ask !

My daughter who is 9 y.o just loves dogs, especially her wishbone dog who she has had since she was an infant. So what my daughter did for our last cruise on the Elation was that she went into the site where you can print out all different types of pictures of wishbone and she colored and decorated them on the airplane, which gave her something to do and when we got to our cabin, she taped them to the outside of the cabin door. This made it easier for her and my husband and I to find our cabin.

I got the suggestion from cruismates.

SnowWhite.........I can't believe you have the same one I do. It's one of those flag that you put up outside your house on a pole, but I have magnets on mine in the back and will be putting it on the balcony when we are in port. It's really cute. I used it on my last cruise also, but for the front door. People loved it and always commented on it. Most telling me it made it easier to find their own cabin.

Default Flag and door decoration

I have one for the balcony and a match for the door. This thread inspired me to add to my decoration.... I got a palm tree with hibiscus flowers. DH already thought I was crazy....this just confirms it!

That is a really good idea!Ive never thought about decorating my door to make it easier to find!On my last cruise, however, a older couple about 2 doors away from us,were celebrating their 40th anniversary, and their kids(who were on the cruise too) decorated their door with about 50 different paper hearts of all sizes and colors and they had a really big one that said "happy anniversary" and it had all of their names around it!I thought it was really nice and it made ALOT easier to find my room on those nights I didnt come in til 4am!

I also read somewhere about the string lights that are battery operated. I have been trying to find them (Michaels and Rag Shop) but no luck yet. I will try again when the Christmas stuff comes out....maybe they will be out then. People put these on their door and on the railing of the balcony. Cool idea. I will definately be trying this on my next cruise.
