Default ship time...

Hi! I'm wondering about the ship time versus time on the islands. More specifically, we will be on the Inspiration arriving at 7 am to Grand Cayman. I inquired about a tour here and the person told me someone would pick us up at the pier at 9 am Central time. Can someone help me understand the time difference? Thank you!

You will cross time zones & the ship will announce it over the PA system... I believe the tours are timed to the islands time zone, not the one you started at your port of departure....

On our cruise, the ship stayed on New York time the entire trip, even though Saint John and Halifax were an hour ahead. Carnival-based shore excursions were based on ship's time as well, as were port arrival and departure times.

It has been my experience that the ship's time did not change as you crossed difference time zones. If you booked an independent shore excursion, take into account which time zone the ship is using and adjust for Central Time. Just to give you something else to think about... what about DST! I don't have an answer there.

Hi hoopsielv,

This is very confusing, isn't it

If the ship stays on Eastern Time you'll get into Grand Cayman at 7 AM. If your tour leaves at 9 AM Grand Cayman time it will be 8 AM Eastern Time.

The ship's we've been on have changed to "Island" time, but I know that not all of them do.

In any case, I think you'll have plenty of time to get to your tour!

(Disclaimer: I'm mathematically (and time zone) "challenged" and not at all sure of what I posted above . Had to ask DH! Luckily, he's used to my "math" questions !)

When we were on the Conquest going to Jamaica and Grand Cayman, the ship made an announcement telling us to reset our watches by Jamaica and Grand Cayman time. It is confusing, but luckily we managed to get back on the ship at the right time.

HAPPY CRUISING TO ALL!!!!!
