1st time cruiser - leaving Sept. 1

I'm a first-timer, sailing the Legend on September 1 out of NYC. I live in the Philadelphia area and am trying to determine the best way to get to the pier. Leave my car there? Have a friend take us and pick us up? Do we usually embark/disembark on time?

Any advice about the embarkation process (how soon to get there, etc.) or just The Legend in general would be appreciated.

Thanks! This board is great!

The ships DO leave on time, plan to be there at least an hour before departure..... Most of the LONG lines are gone by say 1 PM to 2 PM....
There should be a Parking Garage but may be pricey for NY..... You might look at Amtrack or a shuutle bus.... I am sure others will give you more detailed info that have sailed on her.... Have a great cruise....

With the price of gas it might be cheaper for you to take Amtrak or a shuttle/limo service as opposed to having a friend drive you or you driving yourself in.

looks like parking at the terminal is $24 per day. here is the link to the terminal site

OUCH !!!!! ... on the $24 parking... Most other terminals charge around $12 a day..... You might try to stay at a hotel the night before that offers FREE parking for the cruise & shuttle service to the ship.... This is what we are doing in Jacksonville on the Celebration.... What can we say... It's New York!!

Bob offers some very good advise. Many hotels will let you park for the week if you stay overnight at the hotel. Many offer shuttle service or if they don't offer shuttle service, taxis are always available.

Agreed. When we went (by air) to Sint Maarten a few years back we flew out of Philly, about 2 hours away. We were going to drive to Philly the day of our flight, but it was actually CHEAPER to spend the night before in a hotel, thereby allowing us to park free for the whole time, then it would have been to leave our car in a secure lot for 8 days.
