Default Tourists attractions in the Galveston area?

We are going to be staying in Galveston for 2 days before out cruise December 31/06. We decided to rent a car and drive around and do some sightseeing while we are there. Would appreciate any suggestions of things to see, shopping etc. We have 2 teenage daughters who want to shop, shop, shop. Any suggestions of good places to eat and try some good Texan food?

Galveston is down the road from me, so let me see if I can help. Moody Gardens is very nice. Check out their website -- there are several different things to do there. There is shopping in the Strand area, but I don't think this is the serious kind that a teen would be interested in. I will PM you with other thoughts on shopping. There are a lot of historic homes in Galveston that are open for tours, including Bishop's Palace and Moody Mansion. Also at the Port of Galveston is the tall ship Elissa that can be toured and there is a museum next to it giving a lot of details about the history of Galveston. There is an Offshort Drilling Rig that can be toured. Can you tell, I'm just trying to think of all the different options

One of my favorite restaurants is a place called Benno's on the seawall. If you like crab, this is the place to go. It NOT fancy, at all, but they have the best crabs, especially the fried crabs and the cajun crabs, served whole. Oh my, they can make you hurt yourself! 8) If you have any other specific questions, let me know. I will try to help.
