I think that you should book through Carnival. At least your money can be refunded if the ship has a delay or anything. It costs more money, but I think that the expenses are worth the hassle. Im going on a cruise in about a week, and I'm choosing to book through Carnival; it's the safer choice.
We did that tour a couple years ago. Booked through Carnival with no regrets. It was our absolute favorite excursion for that cruise!! I think you go at least a half mile tubing through the cave. The bus ride there and back is about a couple hours though. They fed us lunch at a nice little roadside cafe.
In regards to the hike through the jungle, I don't remember it being very tough. You may have to carry your tube though. Or else get a friend to carry it along with their own.
go through carnival. we had a flat on our bus..which could have been a hassle but another bus squeezed us all in on one. Then when we got there it was cancelled because the rains flooded the caverns. They still fed us. We still had fun though. The guides were funny and let us stop at a place called Cheers...where we got us a couple of drinks and souveniers.
But the biggest thing is Carnival refunded our money. When we got back to the ship we went to the pursers desk and they credited our account.

We used X-stream cave tubing, it was $60us and you only have small groups up to 14. They were wonderful, met us right in the port, new air conditioned vans and JP our guide was wonderful.
BTW, they will refund if your ship misses the port. The main company is Island Marketing and we did receive a refund when we missed our tour in Grand Cayman once. We have used the same compnany for our upcoming cruise.
We have booked through cave-tubing.com. It's $45 there ($50 if you want to include a lunch, which we probably will). Yhony said that was the rate for 5 people or more. We're only 3 but he said we could join another group to get that rate if we didn't come up with 2 other people to join us. Go to their site - it's got tons of info on it and great pictures.
Yhony emailed me right back immediately after I put in my request for reservation. No deposit required and he gave very explicit instructions for how we'd find him standing there with a sign with our names on it. I've read good things about this company and specifically about him and I have full confidence that we're going to have a blast!
We went through carnival - and would not do anything else! I'm a chicken when it comes to going on my own in those places! As far as the hike through the jungle -- the day we went, it was about a 45 min. hike - it was raining (rainforest...lol) and we had to all watch our step. The mud - esp the orange mud was soo slippery. I was the first one to fall - and suffered with my foot aching for about 5 months after that! I wonder now if I cracked something. But, it didn't stop me - esp since I was so embarrassed by falling I just bit the tongue and carried on. But, as long as you are extremely careful - watch your step, you should be just fine. Would I do it again? MOST DEFINITELY!!
I found the walk through the rain forest to be about 45 min in good, dry weather. While it isn't difficult, the ground is uneven and there are a couple of parts that are steep and as a previous poster pointed out, you do have to carry your own tube. You also have to walk through a shallow part of the river when you start out. Depending on the time of the year the current can be strong and the footing is very rocky and slippery.
