Some airlines are now allowing only 44 lbs. Must weight cases before leaving. I also took 4 outfits that I was tired of wearing at home and after wearing them on the cruise just threw them away. Also left my two reading books and any almost empty toiletries. This gave me some extra room for my purchases while abroad.
I just got back from a vacation from Los Angeles to Orlando, Fl and both Delta and Southwest have 49 lb limits. I thought that one of our suitecases was going to be overweight and that I'd have to distribute clothes to other suitcases but I lucked out at 48 lbs.

Don't pull my stunt. The DW and I worried about weight of the luggage for weeks till I went to the airlines web site to check for sure. We had heard it was 50 lbs and it was, but it was per piece of luggage. We were traveling Southwest and they allow 3 pieces of checked luggage per fare. So if I did the math right that allowed myself and the DW 300 lbs of luggage. Many other airlines allow just 2 pieces of checked luggage per fare but that is still 100 lbs and a carry on. Funny thing about it though is we could have gotten by with about 60 lbs of luggage counting shoes :o
Thanks for the information. I plan to weigh my luggage before I leave for the airport.
