Default Port Canaveral Hotel

Does anyone know of a good hotel to stay in near the Port Canaveral pier?

We are going on the Glory on 5/12/07, and I have found air fare out of Chicago O'Hare is much cheaper if we leave on Friday the 11th. Plus all the flights on the 12th get into Orlando later than I would like.

So, any good advice on a nice but not to expensive hotel near the port would be great!

Thanks,
Carrie

we stayed at the super 8 within about 2 miles of the ship. Nothing fancy, nice pool and half block from the beach. There was more upscale ones near there but we stayed for about 69.00

There is a brand new Residence Inn very close to the Port (5 minutes), don't know what their room rates are currently but it looked very nice. We stayed at the Radisson next door because they had a cruise package which included free parking for our car and shuttle service to the Port.

I found the Super 8 in Cocoa Beach............but I have another question.

We have always flown in the day of the cruise and used the cruise line transfers, so this is new to me!

I understand the transfers from the hotel to the pier, but since we will not have a car, what do we do when we arrive back at the port? take a cab to the airport, or can we arrange for one way transfers? Or will the cruiseline transfer us from the airport to the hotel, and from the port back to the airport?

Thanks to all for your help!

I just booked a room at the Country Inn & Suites. It's new, just opened in June and 1/2 mile from the port. They have a hot deal rate of $89. Free parking, shuttle $3.

I just booked a room in Cocoa Beach at the Luna Sea Bed & Breakfast on Atlantic Ave. It is american-family owned and has just been remodeled. No specail rates for cruises or parking, but it is only a very short distance from port. Our room is 69.00 per night. It's not a high rise fancy hotel, but since it is american owned it got my reservations. I spent weeks looking at different hotels and rates, cancellation policies, etc. and this sounded like a great spot if you don't need all the luxuries of the larger places. I booked through priceline, but you can book directly with hotel, the price is the same either way. Watch out for cancellation policies. Almost booked one place that would have charged 50.00 per person if you cancelled at anytime after making reservation. Read them carefully.

We haven't sailed out of Port Canaveral (yet!), but from what I've read the best idea from the ship to the airport is a cab, unless you aren't in a hurry. I believe that the Carnival transfers are in large buses and they wait until they are full before leaving the port.

Since you are flying in the day before, Carnival won't transport you. Look for a hotel that has a shuttle from the airport to the hotel.

Have a wonderful cruise!

I am on the Fantasy sailing 9/21 but we are flying in on 9/20 so we don't have to take such an early flight on 9/21. I got a room at the Best Western Airport for $45. They offer a complimentary shuttle so we will just take that back to the airport to catch the Carnival shuttle to Port Canaveral. The transfers cost $58 pp roundtrip. Hope this helps 8)

When we sailed out of Port Canaveral we rented a car. There are several car rental agencies at the airport as well as the port. The drive from the airport to the port is practically painless and beautiful at the same time. Whether we would arrive the same day or the day before we would rent a car ... would be as economical as taking the Carnival transfers an maybe even cheaper depending on the number of people going.
